Kalm was a breath of fresh air—probably his first ' real ' one in a long while. Skies above were blue and bright, no steel plates to shield them in. Zack can look up from the street and watch birds fly overhead, chirping excitedly while life bustles on below.
The buildings seemed to reach just as high, stretching beyond in cascades of colors, enveloping him in a blanket of shade. Even with how crowded things were here, Zack was at peace. The calm before the storm, he guesses.
Cloud sneaks off somewhere almost immediately and he has half the mind to start hunting the other down until Aerith knocks some sense into him. They're fine—of course—she doesn't need Zack hovering over her all the time, regardless of how he feels about it.
Antsy with the effort of staying away, he keeps himself busy to serve as a distraction. He travels from shop to shop; ogling at the stocks on shelves, stuff he's never seen living in Midgar, or even back home. Majority of the shopkeepers are quite enthusiastic about the place they run, so getting sucked into conversation comes easy.
Eventually, Cloud finds him again, radiating an unusual aura—but nothing that's unwelcome. It's nice, really nice, though Zack's dying to know what could have possibly happened in that time for him to be so giggly. He lets it go for the most part, and they all decide to take in the sights a little more before getting some well deserved rest.
Wanting to feel somewhat useful, Zack stays out later to ask around for jobs they can take care of in the morning. Most have closed up shop by now, but the few that were open thankfully didn't let him go back empty handed.
Zack rereads the information he'd written down while making his way to the inn. He briefly acknowledges the man at the counter with a wave, but otherwise continues to wade through the notes until he walks through the door of his and Cloud's shared room.
❝ Hey, Spike—I think I got us some good leads. It's not much, but it's better than nothin'. ❞
With practiced ease, Zack clicks the lock in place and rests his sword against the wall beside it. A routine he's done night after night no matter where he stayed, so when he turns around, the last thing he's expecting is Cloud dressed like that.
His eyes go wide, pupils blown as he takes in the scene before him. Yellow lace and straps hug Cloud's form like it was made for her—nevermind that it's his favorite color—the set accentuates damn near everything. Zack thinks he must've died to be seeing such a sight.
Heat rises to his cheeks when Cloud saunters toward him. He hadn't even noticed the heels—fuck, she's wearing heels—until the rhythmic tap sounded across the floor. Zack swallows a groan, fighting every urge to not kiss them stupid in the middle of the room.
❝ Cloud—Baby, oh my god. ❞
He holds him by the shoulders with trembling hands, scared of somehow ruining the delicate fabric.
❝ You... You did this for me? ❞
No matter how long Zack gawks at the outfit—at Cloud—he doesn't get used to it. Every movement tugs the straps tighter against her thighs, arousal flooding his stomach and stirring his cock. Exhilaration buzzes under his skin, itching to touch, to kiss, to do anything. He wants to worship Cloud like it's all he's good for.
❝ Did you wanna kill me? 'Cause it's working, you're so—oh my god. Do you know how good you look right now, Cloud? ❞
@riotseas gets a nsft starter for zack & cloud
Cloud has been waiting for this all day. Nerves have been settled in the pit of his stomach the entire day but Cloud thinks - hopes - it will be worth it in the end. Having snuck away without the group when they stopped in Kalm, Cloud had taken the gil he'd made from a few jobs and went shopping for something very specific.
She's been wearing it all day, after having bought it, with no place to stash it considering they're traveling through Kalm, away from Midgar, away from what could be considered home.
Occasionally, Zack looks at them and they give a half chuckle that they try to hide. Cloud can't wait to see how Zack will react and it's the perfect chance to explore their own gender identity.
Zack questions him, Cloud pretends like nothing is up but anyone can tell that Cloud's mood is surprisingly shifted when he is usually so sour. Not today. Nothing will ruin his mood. Well, unless Zack reacts badly though Cloud doubts it.
Eventually, they all settle in their rooms in Kalm. Cloud had been worried she'd have to bunk with Red and Barrett but it seems as if they all bunk in pairs. Barrett with Red, Aerith with Tifa, and Zack with her. It's perfect.
Zack's out but should be back at any point, he mentioned something about checking out the locals and seeing if they can find anything to earn some Gil. A good idea really since Cloud blew through what little gil they had buying what they had bought.
He's happy to wait for Zack to return but of course he doesn't take too long. Thankfully, Cloud would have hated to be kept waiting for too long. He knows that it's Zack entering when the man doesn't bother to knock.
Shoving herself up to a sitting position on one of the beds, her gaze falls onto Zack as he enters the room - waiting for him to turn around to face her. She could pose all sexy but she's afraid she'll only make a fool out of herself so instead she simply sits at the edge of the bed, dressed in Zack's favorite color - yellow - in a strappy and lacy yellow lingerie set with a white floral pattern. Paired with that lingerie is a pair of yellow heels with a bow on the top of the foot.
The person he'd bought the outfit from insisted that heels would go well with it and insisted he buy those for his girlfriend. Little did they know that Cloud was the girlfriend.
Cheeks burn a bright pink and when Zack turns around, she tries very hard not to seem so shy but the nerves is as clear as day with the way her breath trembles slightly and cheeks are constantly burning.
Shifting to shove off the bed, Cloud slowly walks across the room toward Zack. The heels have been broken in already, there's no way they would be walking in them if they didn't have the practice. "I.....I wanted to do something nice for you." Fuck, Cloud can only hope Zack likes it.

Traces of Two Pasts: Episode Tifa - pgs 40-52
Disclaimer: Also, I started this for fun so that my friends who don't have access can read it. I'm just another fan like you. With that said, I do try to be as faithful to the original source material as possible, and for those of you who can read Japanese, please support the author by buying his book.
Not everyone agreed with Chief Zonder's decision. The elderly—a major force in the village—began to make noise. They seemed to take a liking to Zangan's longevity exercises, and regretted not being able to memorize what was taught to them. They wanted someone to check if their poses were correct, and wished to learn the remaining exercises he was supposed to have taught them.
The village chief paid a visit at dinnertime.
"Hey, Tifa..." he said with a sullen expression. "Will you teach the old folks how to do Zangan's exercises properly?"
"Why Tifa?" her father asked. She just knew he would ask.
"Because Zangan named her. Told me that if we ever needed someone to mentor us, Tifa would be qualified. Said that she had the most controlled form* out of everyone who gathered there that day.
Kata, which means “form” in Japanese, is the term used to describe specific sequences of motion that are used to practice technique and execution in martial arts
It pleased her knowing that someone spoke of her like that when not in her presence, but it also caused her to be slightly embarrassed.
"Zonder, don't get my family involved."
"Aw, c'mon! I'm already in big trouble as it is. The old folks just won't let it go!"
"Hmph!" Brian Lockhart snorted. He enjoyed seeing the village chief squirm. She couldn't tell whether or not they actually got along with each other.
"Tifa, what do you think?"
"I'd just be teaching the elderly people those exercises, right? If that's all there is, then I'd like to try."
"Tifa..." her father began, but he swallowed back his complaint. He knew that it wasn't good for her to have too much time on her hands. "Well, if you're gonna do it, then do it right."
While preparing breakfast, Tifa heard a knock at the door, and opened to a woman’s face she barely recognized. It was an elderly woman called "Mon Amie" who was an aunt of sorts to Chief Zonder. Her hair was pulled back into a bun so tight that it looked like her eyes were being pulled straight up!
"Good morning to you. It's been a long time, Tifa. I heard that Zonder told you all about it. How about 2 gil per hour?"
"Sorry?" She had not heard about any renumeration.
"Well, you are thirteen now. Not a little girl anymore, so that doesn't cut it for you, eh? Alright then, how about 4 gil?"
"No, I don't want any money."
"That won't do. We are taking this very seriously, and you will be properly paid for your work."
No matter how much Zangan trusted her, would she really be up to the task? But, being able to earn her own money sounded very appealing, as if a whole new world had opened up to her.
Mon Amie took Tifa's silence as her wanting to bargain for higher wages.
"6 gil."
"Alright. 6 gil it is then."
"Brian never did leave the village. He wanted to keep Thea all to himself." Mon Amie suddenly brought up her parents during their exercise routine at the public square.
"Really?" said Tifa, adjusting Mon Amie's arm posture. She needed to get her to straighten her back and push out her chest a bit more for the desired result.
"She was quite the popular one, that child."
It wasn’t very pleasant hearing her mother being called "that child", yet Tifa encouraged her. Listening to the elderly tell old stories was a part of her job. The responsibility she felt from receiving wages tempered her patience.
"You should leave the village," said Mon Amie suddenly. "Doesn't it sound like fun going around to different places with Master Zangan?"
"It sure does."
"Alright, you don't have to play along with me. No need for you to learn things like that. Just think about it carefully, okay? Something needs to change for women here in Nibelheim."
Tifa silently nodded as she propped up Mon Amie's arm.
"There weren't any women around in my day who held this kind of thinking. But that Strife girl”—she was speaking of Cloud's mother—"tried to leave. Not sure if it's because she hated it here, or if she dreamed of going to the big city."
Mon Amie abruptly altered her pose, ruining her base form.
"To the traditional Nibelheim women, she seemed pretty unconventional. We all refused to accept her ways, but secretly felt the same. Even though we scolded her, deep down inside we were cheering her on. We even felt jealous of her for carving out her own path. Perhaps she changed something in us, little by little.”
Tifa lifted up Mon Amie's knee. "Up high like this. Thank you."
She supported Mon Amie as the woman’s body rocked back and forth.
"But Claudia remained in the village, didn't she?" said Tifa.
"Well, that’s because she fell in love. You see, a man traveled here. Claudia was helping out at the inn at the time. She must have been taken in by the outside air he brought with him. And he was a pretty fellow. I’m sure you see it when you look at Cloud. That boy got the best of both his parents!”
“Right…”
“But, just like the wind, he just couldn’t keep still. Not sure if Cloud learned how to walk yet, but around that time he told her he would go to the mountains, but never came back. They found his belongings though. His body probably got eaten by monsters. You were lucky you didn’t meet the same fate.”
Tifa braced herself. Was she going to bring up that incident?
“Cloud egging you on to climb Mt. Nibel… Maybe that was in his blood.”
Mon Amie’s body began to sway. Tifa had stopped holding onto her causing her to lose her balance. She couldn’t regain her footing in time, and fell flat down on her backside.
“Alright then," said Tifa. "Now let’s use the opposite leg. Please lift up your knee.”
Tifa held out a helping hand to her, but Mon Amie refused and got up on her own.
“Quite strict for a pretty face.”
“That’s because I get paid 6 gil to be.”
Before long, she became more attentive. She noticed Mon Amie lifting up her other knee, but it was at the wrong height again. While Tifa helped her to adjust, Mon Amie said, “You really don’t remember anything? You know, about that accident you got into?”
She was eight years old when she got into that accident on Mt. Nibel. Cloud was with her. The villagers chose to believe the story based on Emilio and the others’ testimonies, and nothing else could be said about it. Tifa really couldn't remember what happened.
"No, unfortunately not..."
Whether the elderly came to her for exercising or just to chat, it was tougher than she had imagined. Her father laughed at her and said he wouldn't have anything to do with them, even for 100 gil.
They never listened and were set in their ways, even the ones who kept away and smiled modestly at her. They just had a different view on things, and sulked if nobody paid them attention.
The topics they discussed also surprised Tifa, and sometimes hurt her too. She disliked whenever they brought up how her body looked so grown. There would be someone who sensed her discomfort or resentment, and would try to change the subject, but then it would turn into whom she should be with and things of that nature.
So, all things considered, Tifa preferred hearing them going on about herself rather than her father’s failed romances, or whom her mother used to hang out with before she got married to him. To the elderly townsfolk, her father and others his age were still “the village youth”.
After her day finished and she was about to go to sleep, she thought to herself that maybe there would be a time when she would be the one telling someone else about what happened today, or about some news she heard from another person. Telling the same stories over and over again, everyday just like the next, until she, herself, became just a relic of an era in village history.
※
“They confused me at first, but I got used to being around them, and then it wasn’t so bad anymore. That feeling of wanting someone to talk to—Everyone has that,” explained Tifa.
“So that’s where you learned to entertain guests? From spending your time talking to old folks?” asked Barret.
“Possibly. Maybe that did me good. More and more of the elderly signed up, and they started calling their morning gatherings the ‘Calisthenics Club’.”
“It’s like that at Seventh Heaven too,” said Barret with some intensity.
Aerith urged him to talk.
“It used to be just a small shop owned by this one gramps, but when Tifa started working there, the business picked up. Men crowded the place. Know what I mean, Red?”
“What I’m more interested in is what happened to Zangan afterward? I can sort of imagine based on your fighting style, Tifa...” said Red XIII.
“You’re right. There was a little more that happened before I got to where I'm at.”
※
A month passed after the start of the Calisthenics Club. All morning Tifa would teach the exercises and set aside time for her reading and arithmetic. The afternoon she'd go to the mountains and work hard towards building up her strength and stamina, and then would return home before sunset so her father wouldn’t worry. At night she would examine Zangan's writings and practice her form, reviewing the materials over and over again so as to not overlook anything.
One day, she received a letter from Emilio. He wrote about the fast-paced lifestyle in the big city, and told her about everything he found perplexing: arguments he had had with people, things he ate, the social inequality, and their differences in moral values.
“But whenever I get discouraged, it’s you I think about, Tifa, and then I imagine that day when I’ll come and get you. I'll write to you sometimes and teach you about the city, so you won't be so confused when that time comes.”
Who do you think you are? That's how she honestly felt reading the letter.
Zangan appeared, acting as if nothing had happened. He knocked on the door just in time to greet her father and asked for his permission to call Tifa out, and then led her to the river where they first met.
“Master Zangan, please let me be your student. I want to be stronger.”
“That’s exactly the answer I was looking for, but what’s the matter, Tifa? I sense your impatience. Why are you in such a hurry?”
“That’s not it!” she replied, but felt self-conscious. “No… It’s because I got that letter from my friend.”
“What kind of letter?”
“I think it’s because I don’t want to lose. I don’t want to lose to anyone who left the village.”
“Hmm. My hand-to-hand combat techniques are not meant to be used to make you feel superior to others.”
“I know.”
“No, you don’t. But the answer to that can only be found through diligent study. All right. I will acknowledge you if you pass my test.”
“Test?”
“Show me everything you’ve learned from Volume 1. You’ve been practicing, haven’t you?”
“Yes.”
Tifa performed a sequence of forms from the physical training method.
“One more time, from the beginning.”
“Okay.”
This time Zangan interrupted with instructions.
"Check the book to see the direction your palms should be facing."
Tifa crouched down over the book and flipped through the pages. The form was wrong from the very start. Should have been above not below.
“I was wrong.”
“Try again.”
When she extended both hands and slightly shifted the direction of her palms, she felt a different set of muscles tingling.
“Everything from the Book of Secrets must be obeyed. Don’t try to interpret it another way or decide that your way is better. While disciplining your body, you must learn to be faithful to your decisions. If I take you in as my student, you will become stronger. So, you must cultivate your mind to control that power. The greater and stronger the power to handle, the greater the responsibility of its owner. Do you understand?”
“Yes.”
The second time around, Zangan pointed out any minor mistakes she made. Each time she would have to go back and confirm with the Book of Secrets before advancing, which made things take twice as long. Fatigue built up in her arms and legs.
“Alright, now relax and close your eyes. Focus your attention and check the condition of your body. Does it hurt anywhere?”
“My upper back… I wouldn’t say it hurts but it feels like it’s burning...”
She slipped her right hand underneath her left armpit until it touched the lower part of her shoulder blade. Digging her fingers into it felt good.
“Hmph!” Zangan gave a satisfying nod. “That’s your shoulder blade. What you’re pressing into is the trapezius muscle. Surrounding it is your deltoid, infraspinatus, psoas minor and other muscles. The second volume will teach you how to train each one of those muscles on your back,” he said, while holding out a booklet to her. It was Volume 2.
“If you want to live your life with pride then pay close attention to your back. Squeeze your shoulder blades together, chest out. Walking through life with a beautiful posture is also part of your training.”
“Got it.”
“Let’s get started. Well then, onto Volume 2, No. 2-1-1, scapular push-ups.”
Zangan immediately prostrated himself on the ground, and lowered his chest. Tifa hastened to follow his example.
“All you're doing is supporting your whole body with your arms. Concentrate on your shoulder blades. Rotate them outwards—protract, retract, protract.”
It was her first time experiencing those movements. How was she supposed to move to protract her shoulder blades? She couldn’t picture it in her mind. Glancing over at Zangan she noticed he was rotating his shoulders outward, something her cat, Maru, often did.
“You look like a cat,” she said.
“Right. There’s a lot we can learn from cats.”
She focused her attention on her scapula, going up and down, until the repetition of movements were drilled into her body. Zangan rose and watched over Tifa for some time before clearing his throat.
“Good!”
The movements were subtle but still made her perspire.
“That’s because the muscles across your back are wider. Moving them increases the blood flow and raises your temperature, so that’s why you’re working up a sweat.”
After completing Volume 2, Tifa was sweating profusely. She felt unthinkable pain throughout her whole back.
“Alright, any questions? If you do, now’s your chance.”
She wanted to say, yes, but nothing came to mind at the moment.
“If not, then we’ll move onto Volume 3.”
“Huh?” she couldn’t help but shout. Her whole body was screaming in pain. Zangan ignored her and continued.
“Volume 3 is for chest and abs. We’re going to train your front body. The pectoralis major muscle is roughly divided into three parts: upper, middle and lower. There are several different ways to effectively train it, but I’ll teach you the basic concepts.”
“Alright…”
“At your age, your overall motor skills are complete, and in that regard, you excel. You haven’t had any special training, have you? If so, then you must have been born with this. Treasure it.”
“I will.”
She felt energy pour into her body. Perhaps listening to Zangan talk with a relaxed mind helped her to recover from fatigue.
“After a while, we’ll concentrate on building your muscles. But you will not be using any equipment except your body. We won’t be using barbells or dumbbells until you’re much older. Besides, our Zangan-ryu hardly finds them necessary. That is because I prescribe individual fighting styles that suit each of my students. You don’t need arms built like logs or a bulky chest. What you need is to build up a fighting style that will utilize those reflexes, that body, and your speed. Well, what do you want to do? Shall we call it a day?”
“No. Please go on.”
She didn’t want to disappoint the first person who had managed to earn her respect.
“Yes, that’s the spirit! Alright. But we’ll stop here for today. Let’s call this current level of fatigue your limit. Keep it in mind. You have a long way before you can try to challenge that limit to surpass it. Continuity is more important now than ever.”
On their way back, a realization came over Tifa regarding Zangan’s test. It didn't annoy her. If her father tried to make her work like that she’d probably stop talking to him for three days in a row. With those thoughts in mind, she walked her teacher back to the inn.
“Say hello to your father for me.”
As she stood in front of her house she could smell the scent of spices in the air. Spices that her mother liked to use in her best recipe. It was her father’s favorite dish, but since Tifa didn’t really like it, it was hardly ever served at the dining table.
She opened the door and said, “I’m home.”
“Welcome back.” Her father, dressed in an apron, peeked out at her from the kitchen.
“This smell… Huh? Is it mom’s?”
“I was really craving it... Oh, but I made something else for you.”
She was filled with remorse. She didn’t like the way he looked or the tone of voice he used when trying to gauge her mood, but it was all her fault for making it that way.

TOTP, Episode Aerith, Scenes 5-9
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Traces of Two Pasts Episode 2: Aerith Scenes 5 - 9
A Light Novel by Kazushige Nojima Translated by Stanley (@istanleyff7 on twitter)
Scene 5
"My mother immediately took out a syringe after sitting on the bench and injected herself. I was startled."
"That must have been rough..."
There was compassion in Tifa's eyes and voice.
According to her definition of a mother, Ifalna would be a "really good-natured person". However, she was different back then.
"Even though I knew she wasn't well, I only worried about myself."
"You were a child..."
"I know..."
Aerith fell silent. It cannot be helped since she was just a child. Thus, there were a number of regrets that she did not want to simply put away.
"Ah! My bad, my bad! Shall I continue?"
"Sure. Please."
"The medicine worked, and we walked on for hours in the Sector 4 Slums, taking a break at times. Then we saw an information board that said ‘Sector 5 Slums’."
Scene 6
"Mummy, it says this is the Sector 5 slums. The house is in Sector 3, isn't it?"
"Nope. This is fine."
"But the new house is in Sector 3, right?"
"Aerith, let's hurry up a little. It's going to be nighttime."
"Where are we going? Where are we hurrying to?"
Without answering, Ifalna tightly grasped Aerith's hand and hastened her steps.
Many questions surfaced. Eventually, Ifalna started speaking silently.
"I've heard that there's a church in the Sector 5 Slums. In the past, people gathered here and prayed to God, but nobody comes here anymore. I've been thinking that we should hide here a little..."
"I've heard about God! Does he really exist?" Aerith was surprised.
"According to his believers, he does. I heard that when they pray, they get empowered."
"Pray...?"
"It's something like us Cetra speaking to the planet, although I don’t really understand it. But, since no one is coming to the church anymore, there probably aren't any believers. It's too bad for God, but it seems like it's great for our situation."
"We'll wait for Fuzz at the church?"
Ifalna stayed quiet for a while, then shook her head.
"We can't cause any more trouble than this."
"What about the new home?"
"We will not live there."
"Fuzz would be disappointed, wouldn't he?
"He probably will be."
"Are you okay with it, Mama?"
"As long as you're around, I'm okay."
Aerith thought that those were surprisingly comforting words. But that didn't mean that she didn't feel bad for Fuzz, nor had she gotten over the guilt of betraying him. However, after the thought that she didn't have to live seeing injections, medicine and backhand kisses, she felt a sense of relief.
"Let's go to the station first. I only know the way from there."
"Should we ask someone?"
"Nope. We don’t want anyone to know our whereabouts."
↞↠
There are times when there's not enough sunlight in the slums, as the plate was blocking them out. A giant lamp called the sun lamp makes up for that shortage. However, the light that was seen in the morning and afternoon was just like the actual sunlight. While she was amazed at her mother’s explanation, she also felt anxious. The evening was drawing near. She felt that something terrifying would happen if they didn't make it to church by sundown. A terrifying thing that she, too, couldn't imagine.
"Aerith, that looks like the station."
Aerith looked over. A train was about to depart. Unlike the Sector 4 Slums Station, Sector 5's Slums Station seemed like a small station with only a platform. There were probably a few commuters departing from the trains, and there weren't many passers-by too.
"Alright then, which way should we..."
Should we go? Those were the words she probably was going to say.
Without finishing her sentence, Ifalna sluggishly collapsed to the ground.
"Mummy?!"
Aerith's voice gathered the looks of her surroundings. However, nobody moved over to help.
Ifalna's breathing was heavy, and after touching her, Aerith realised she had a fever. A high fever.
"Mummy, where's your medicine?"
"I've... used them all..."
It was a desperate situation. What should Aerith do?
“Are you alright? Mummy?”
Ifalna said something from her painful breath. Aerith couldn’t hear it, so she brought her ears close to her lips. She only felt a hot sigh in her ears. What should she do? What should she do? Aerith's head became loaded with "What should I do". Her mother uttered something again, and Aerith heard that she's alright. But she was definitely not alright. However, what should she do? She wondered if anyone could help them, like how someone did at the Sector 4 Slums Station. Aerith lifted her head and looked for someone who seemed like they could help, but no one was paying attention to them. Would you please help us? Would you please look over here? These words come and go in Aerith's head. My mummy is sick. She has a fever. Please help us. Please, help us, please! However, she couldn't speak out.
"I'm sorry..." Ifalna muttered out. "We were... in the middle of an adventure..."
Please do not say such words.
"No!"
Her emotions overflowed in her voice.
“Are you sick?”
Looking back, there stood a man in faded and dirty clothes.
"Let's move her over there. She's blocking the way here."
Without waiting for a reply, he sprang into action.
He inserted his hands under both sides of Ifalna, lying face up, and started to back away.
Ifalna was being pulled along and had her shoe fall off her foot. Aerith picked the shoe up and gave them chase.
"Be more gentle!"
The man didn't change his expression and continued to pull her along. He sat her leaning against the station platform.
"Call a doctor."
"Where can we find one?"
"I don’t know, if it were me, I would shout out loud to find one."
The man turned back, and he really shouted out.
"Is there a doctor!"
However, there was no response.
"Well, all the best."
And just like that, the man went off without looking back.
"Oh, my goodness."
A well-dressed man and woman came over and looked at Ifalna scrutinisingly.
"Are you doctors?"
"No, we're not."
"That person, is she your Mama?"
"Shouldn't we quickly call out for a doctor?"
"Don't you have any medicine?"
While listening to both of them, her mother's words came to mind. The truly good people are those that act on it and give help. The people here weren’t them.
"Mummy wait here. I'm calling a doctor over."
Aerith ran while looking as though she was being crushed by anxiety.
"Is there a doctor?"
She exclaimed in the direction of a lot of people.
"Is there a doctor?"
Looking back, she was a long way away from the station. She then heard the voices of men and women. It was a cheerful-like group who walked over. She decided to ask them, and if that didn't work, she would head back to the station. Aerith ran.
She was about to ask them was there a doctor. Then she saw a youth turning around and coming close to her.
"Hey, I've told you so!" the man continued walking back towards her. "And yet..."
Aerith hurriedly tried to avoid him but did not make it in time, the man's butt struck her face, and she fell over. The men and women gathered their gaze on Aerith.
"Go home and sleep, kid!" exclaimed the man who bumped into Aerith, and his friends burst out laughing.
She absentmindedly got up while hearing the laughter of the leaving group. She felt frustrated, sad, angry and miserable.
"Are you alright?"
Aerith looked back, and there was a woman who seemed to look over worriedly. The simple, tied up hair behind her head swayed.
"I'm okay. Do you know a doctor?"
She noticed that she herself was crying and wiped away her own tears.
"I live in the outskirts, so I don't know any doctors around here."
Aerith gave her thanks and started to walk away. Whenever she was asked whether she was alright, she only could reply that she was alright. She wondered how many times she asked her mother that.
"Mummy. I'm sorry..."
Aerith ran towards the station.
Upon returning, she saw that her mother's body was covered with a blanket. A "good person" must have appeared and covered her with it. However, seeing her mother's painful state, she felt as though her chest became crushed. Her fever was so hot, she couldn’t even keep touching her.
"Mummy."
Even after she called out, Ifalna was still looking at the vast sky.
"Aerith. Are you here?"
"I'm here."
Ifalna's eyes searched for Aerith, and she grabbed her.
"This..." Ifalna pulled out a small pouch from her clothes and held it out.
"I got this from my dad, who got it from his mum, who also got it from her mum. It's not good for anything at all, but it has always been around, connecting us Cetra."
Aerith's chest became flaring hot.
"No. I don't want it."
If she takes it, it'll all be over. She had a strong hunch.
"Well... My life is ending soon. I'm returning to the Planet."
Ifalna's hand that was holding out the bag was trembling, and then it finally fell.
"Don't be sad. Even from here on out, I'll be by your side"
"Mummy."
"Are you alright?"
The voice came from above. She looked up towards the voice, and it was a woman, the same woman who called out to Aerith when she fell.
All of a sudden, Ifalna moved. She raised her upper body and grabbed the woman's arm.
"Take... Aerith... somewhere safe."
She said it with such a powerful voice that made Aerith wonder where she left that strength.
However, in the next moment, Ifalna's body became empty. Her spirit left her body, leaving her flesh and bones without its' host.
"Ah..." Aerith muttered without thinking.
Aerith repeated her mother's words in her head. Don't be sad. I'm returning to the Planet. I'll be by your side. Connecting us. She knew. Even though she knew, her chest still stung. Her tears were flowing down, and she let out her cry. Her body hurt and was also trembling. Someone was stroking her back.
Suddenly, the surroundings became busy. Aerith lifted her head and saw a train slipping into the platform with a roaring sound.
"Let's leave here."
The woman said as she firmly pulled Aerith's hand, forcing her up her feet. Aerith quickly picked up the pouch.
"I have a bad feeling about this."
The woman pulled Aerith's arm as she hurriedly tried to leave the station. She remembered being pulled by Ifalna and crossing the railway tracks. She wondered where this hand would take her.
Mummy, goodbye.
From here on out, they'll probably still be together. That was probably right. However, Aerith would not be able to feel that body anymore. She was not allowed to feel that body anymore because the form of her mother's life was different.
"Mummy!"
She turned back and yelled out to her mother, but the pull of her hand became stronger. She saw that the train stopped. When the door opened, Shinra troopers and men in white coats vigorously alighted.
"Let's run."
When the woman saw that Aerith wasn't moving, she picked her up roughly and started running.
↞↠
When they eventually approached the centre of the slums, the woman finally lowered Aerith.
"Are you able to walk?"
Aerith nodded in agreement.
"I'm sorry I couldn't properly let you say goodbye."
Aerith shook her head.
"I'm truly sorry that I had to leave your mother there and head off."
The woman had a sincerely apologetic look on her face. Aerith nodded again.
"You poor thing."
"My mother only just returned to the Planet, so I'm not sad."
"Ahh... It seems that there are people who do think of it that way. Even so, it's sad to be separated, isn't it?"
"Nope. It is because I can still meet her."
"I see. Well then, firstly, let's go to my house, shall we? When you're there, you can cry all you want."
Scene 7
"But I didn't cry at all."
After Aerith said that, Tifa gave her a dubious-like look.
"My house, you've been there before, right? The one in the Sector 5 Slums."
"Yup. I've been there."
"There were lots of flowers, weren't there?"
"Yup!"
"When I went there for the first time, I was also welcomed by the flowers. Really, I felt that. I felt the Planet, and I felt my mother. That's why I didn’t have to cry. What I left behind wasn't my mother. My mother was here."
Tifa tilted her neck and was puzzled.
"I've been saying weird things, haven't I?"
Aerith laughed.
"I think it's strange, but it isn't weird."
"Thank you. I thought that you'd say that. That's why I'm able to talk."
Tifa felt something at the back of her nose.
"Hey! Hey!" Aerith wanted to change the mood. "My house was huge, wasn't it? For a house in the slums."
"Yeah! More than just being splendid, I thought that it was a proper house. It doesn't look like a house in the Slums nor a house in Midgar."
"That's right. The house belonged to Elmyra's father-in-law. People said that her father-in-law was an influential man. How do I describe him... A Corneo who isn’t bad.”
"A Corneo who isn’t bad?" Tifa repeated herself.
"Ahhh, it's impossible. The impression is too bad."
"Yeah. Only Corneo's face comes to mind."
"I've failed. Think of a more gentlemanly face. Anyone besides Corneo would be fine."
"I'll try."
It seemed that Tifa was really trying. However, she slipped out a laugh.
"Hmmm?"
"I don't know many guys who are gentlemanly."
Scene 8
Aerith, who knows little about the landscape of the slums, also quickly realised that it was a unique and special place unlike any other. It was a land with lots of nature. Plants grew on the levelled three-dimensional terrain, and even flowers were blooming. It was a stunning scenery for Aerith, who only knew flowers in vases or potted plants.
They travelled through the garden and started walking down the wooden plank, which was laid out to make a path. Aerith then felt someone stroking her hands and legs. She didn’t feel uneasy and fearful. There was a gentle and calm feeling on her heart, or perhaps her head.
"Who are you?"
The wind was blowing and brushed Aerith's cheek. Her heart was filled with joy.
"Did you say something?" Elmyra Gainsborough, who had already introduced herself on the road, turned her head around.
"Nope."
"I see..." Elmyra started walking again.
"There’s lots of grass, aren't there? It's an old plot of land, and it was left like that. There are lots of flowers blooming too. It's still blooming now, but these kinds are just beginning to bloom."
Aerith thought of a garden with lots of flowers and was delighted.
"I've been cutting and pulling them, but they are stubborn. It's hard because insects come too."
"I think it's good as it is."
"Well, but I'm giving up."
Elmyra's house was an old solid wooden building. They entered by opening an elaborately constructed double door with glass mounted on its' upper half.
Her day was filled with first time experiences since she left the Shinra Building. Above all, this experience of entering another person's house for the first time was like a lump of "first time"s striking down on her. The interior had an appearance in which plenty of natural wood was used. There were tables and chairs in the centre of the room. Unlike the rooms in the Shinra Building, the walls here had many windows. Furniture, tableware, pots, food, cleaning tools— it was like she could hear the breathing of the people living here. Aerith was distressed from the information overload and took a deep breath through her mouth.
"You're a strange child, aren't you?"
Elmyra laughed.
"I know it's sudden, but I thought about it along the way. I know I could bring you here, but what am I supposed to do after that? There was an orphanage on the way here, wasn't there? A lot of kids without parents live there. I thought about bringing you there, but there's a rumour that it's under the influence of Shinra Company. I thought about it after seeing what happened at the station. You probably hate the Shinra, don't you?"
Aerith nodded strongly many times.
"Well, we have to carefully think about what's going to happen from here on out," Elmyra let out a huge sigh. "But I'm not at a space to think about such complex matters now. Are you alright to go about this later and stay here for a while?"
Aerith nodded again and again.
"Well then, shall we go to the second floor?"
Elmyra, who seemed to be an impatient person, promptly climbed up the stairs to the second floor. Aerith hurriedly kept up and saw Elmyra waiting for her along the second-floor corridor.
"In the meanwhile, I'll let you stay upstairs."
"Okay."
"This is a house with a fair number of guests. If there suddenly were a child, they would find it suspicious, wouldn't they? More than anything, I can't guarantee that they wouldn't tell Shinra about you. For the time being, except when I say it's okay, I'll have you stay upstairs."
"For the time being... How long will that be?"
Elmyra frowned and folded her arms. The smile disappeared from her eyes.
"Honestly, tell me. Is Shinra chasing your mother? Or are they chasing you too?"
She knew the meaning of her question. However, how should she reply? She was also probably being chased too. She was undoubtedly being chased because she is a descendant of the Cetra.
"Ummm. Yes."
"It's alright if you say yes. However, if it comes to that, you'll be staying on the second floor until Shinra gives up finding you, okay?"
Aerith knew that Shinra would probably never give up searching for her. She'll probably live on the second floor her whole life.
"Don't look like that... It's human nature. You won't be here for an eternity."
"Um. Okay."
The doorbell rang downstairs. Elmyra frowned. Aerith felt nervous that it might be someone pursuing from Shinra.
"Wait here for a moment, quietly."
After quickly fixing up her hair and clothes, Elmyra went downstairs.
Aerith crouched down and hid her breath at that spot. After she thought she heard a sign of the door opening...
"Where did you go!"
The voice of a furious man burst through. Aerith lost her balance and quickly placed down her hand for support.
"That's none of your business!"
"You were the one who told me to come over in the evening, weren’t you? Oh? Do you treat people like this all the time?"
"I said I'll probably be here in the evening. I didn't make any promises. You can't come here every day at any time for no reason."
'It will end after a signature and a blood seal. How many times must I say it?"
"It will be the same no matter how many times you say it. Understand? This is about the way society works, and the rules. Without Meguro's consent, I also won’t do anything. And even with my blood seal, he would think that I gave in to a threat. If you want to keep your job forever, you have to stay true to your own words, okay?"
"Shit!"
"Your teeth will fall off from such foul words. Well then, go home!"
"Shit! Shit!"
"If you want to stand on top of others, you'll repent for it. Well, back off!"
It was the sound of the door slammed shut. The man was mumbling in an angry voice. However, she did not understand its content.
Elmyra returned to the second floor and seemed exhausted.
"Ahhhhh..." She let out a deep sigh.
"That was Carlo Kinky. That man, he's a special one. Other guests are normally just decent and quiet."
↞↠
Aerith was assigned to the room of Gabriel Gainsborough, who built the house, and that was his room where he had recuperative medical treatment until two months prior. It was tidied up and smelled clean. She didn't feel any hints of death.
"I don't really think it has a good atmosphere, but I don't have any other rooms. Nope, I have one, but I'll have to clean it up."
Elmyra felt apologetic. However, Aerith didn't care about it. In fact, she even felt a welcoming-like feeling from the room.
That night, Ifalna appeared by her bedside.
"I'll be supporting Elmyra being fond of you, okay?"
Ifalna laughed, but that smile had some kind of tiredness in it. It was the same smile as when she was walking in the slums.
"How did you come here?"
"It’s not that I came here, but we're always together because we are connected."
Aerith felt her mother's hand on her forehead. And before long, she slept with peace in her mind.
Ifalna appeared the next night too.
"How was today? I wonder if you got along with Elmyra."
"Hmmm... I don't know. Elmyra made breakfast, brought it to me, and we ate together. At that time, she made bread for me for lunch. She went out after that and then came back around dinner time. But, she seemed tired. That's why we didn't talk much. I can't get along with her. What should I do?"
"It's alright. Elmyra is having it rough now. But, I think you can help her. "
"What should I do?"
"When she wants to cry, stay with her and cuddle close together. It's the same as when I was here."
"... Mom, was there a time when you wanted to cry?"
"I probably did a few times..."
Scene 9
"I'll explain this," Aerith changed her tone to an excuse-like manner.
Tifa seemed to be in an absorbed-like state.
"When I was a kid, I thought that it was a dream, and I thought I was just talking in a dream, but that's not it."
"Um.... What do you mean by that?"
"It's one of the powers of the Cetra. We can be one with the floating life of the Planet. Through this life, and though it seems there are various conditions, we're able to communicate with people whom we're separated from."
"That's amazing, isn't it?"
“Right? It gets more different than you think. But I can't do it anymore. I can feel something when I go to a deep place, but usually not at all."
"I see."
"Like happiness and sadness. But, I have been through a lot due to this power when I was a kid. Well, I must be a strange kid, aren’t I?"

May I request an Aerith x fem!Reader, where the reader is a Turk who likes to buy flowers from Aerith and wants to ask her out, but is too shy to ask?
Here you go, dear. You didn’t specify whether you wanted some headcanons or a drabble for your request, so I decided to do a drabble because I really liked the idea. However, please make sure to specify next time, so that I know what you want to see for your request. :) Anyway, I hope you like what I wrote; please enjoy.
The flower girl – Aerith Gainsborough x fem!turk!reader
She was standing at the corner of the street, right where she had stood when you had seen her for the first time all these months ago. The small basket that was dangling from her wrist was filled with yellow flowers, their color so vivid that they almost seemed to glow in the dim light of the street lights.
You couldn’t help but smile at the sight of her. For a few moments, you just stood there, admiring how her hair framed her face with those captivating green eyes that you couldn’t forget since you looked into them for the first time. Her light pink dress made her look a lot more innocent than she actually was; something you had learned in the meantime. People often underestimated her because of her looks but you knew that she had a lot more to offer than just a pretty face. This girl was fearless and quick-witted, and she always managed to make your heart beat faster with one single glance; something that no one else had accomplished so far.
Her eyes lit up when she spotted you approaching her, and she gave you a cheerful smile. “You’re here again,” she said, her voice like music to your ears. “I almost thought you wouldn’t come today.”
“You know I always do,” you replied and returned her smile. It was true; you came here every day, sometimes to buy flowers from her, sometimes because you just needed someone to talk. With that, Aerith Gainsborough had become one of the most important people in your life, without even knowing it. And she probably would never know it, given the fact that you were way too shy to actually ask her out. You didn’t want to embarrass yourself by assuming that there was more than just friendship blossoming between the two of you, and, probably the more important thing, you were a turk– and at first, Aerith hadn’t been very comfortable with your company. It took you a few weeks to convince her that you weren’t here because you had the order to take her back to Shinra, and as time went by, she had started to accept and even appreciate your daily visits. But you weren’t sure if she would be happy if you asked her out; she had never acted like you were more than a friend to her, and since you didn’t want to destroy your friendship, you had kept quiet about your feelings for quite a while now.
But every time she smiled at you like she did right now, you just wanted her more. Only the fact that you couldn’t hardly overcome your shyness and that you had no idea if she would actually agree to go out with you stopped you from even asking her.
“It’s good to see you, (Y/N),” Aerith said now, immediately snapping you out of your thoughts. You felt your face heating up at the unexpected compliment but when you spoke, you sounded so calm as if her words didn’t faze you at all. During your training to become a turk, you had learned how important it was to hide your emotions; something that usually came in handy when you were talking to Aerith. “Thank you. It’s good to see you, too.”
There was an awkward silence then. Aerith looked at you, a curious expression in her eyes, almost as if she sensed that you were trying to hide something from her. Since the day you first met, she had learned enough about you to realize that there was something that bothered you; your tense shoulders and the way you tried to avoid her gaze spoke volumes.
She just wasn’t sure what was on your mind right now. Maybe something had happened at work, or perhaps there was something going on in your private life. She knew that it was none of her business but that didn’t stop her from worrying about you. You were always so nice and sweet, and she hated to see you so upset.
Slowly, she reached out to place her hand on your arm. “(Y/N),” she said softly and furrowed her brows when you flinched from her touch ever so slightly. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” you sighed. How could you tell her that you desperately wanted to ask her out but were too shy to actually do it? How could you explain that feeling to a self-confident and straightforward person like Aerith? Surely, she would never hesitate like that.
“You sure?” Aerith’s gaze was soft, almost tender. “You know you can tell me everything, right?”
Once again, you sighed. “It’s just… there’s someone I really like but – I don’t know how to tell them. I’m just not brave enough, I guess.”
Her face dropped and the tenderness faded from her gaze to make room for… Could it be? Was she actually disappointed about the fact that you liked someone?
“Oh,” she mumbled. Although she had always suspected that there was someone special in your life – a person like you surely had a lot of admirers – but it was a whole nother story to hear it directly from you. Of course, she wanted you to be happy; still, a part of her had hoped that she could be the one to win your heart.
She shook her head and squared her shoulders. If the person you spoke about was the one to make you happy, she had to accept it, no matter how much it hurt. “Well, I have an idea,” she said, trying to put on a smile once again.
“Look,” she continued and held out her basket to show you the familiar yellow flowers you had admired countless times before. “Lovers used to give these when they were reunited. Maybe – maybe you should give them to the person you’re talking about. I’m sure they will appreciate it, even if they don’t know the meaning. Flowers make everyone happy, don’t they?”
Before you could reply anything, Aerith had already shoved a bunch of flowers into your arms. There was a hint of sadness in her eyes when she locked her gaze with yours, sending a shiver down your spine. It hurt to see her like that.
“Aerith,” you began, staring down at the flowers and taking a deep breath before speaking again. “I don’t think you understand what I’m trying to say. The person I’m talking about… it’s you. It has always been you.”
Her green eyes widened in disbelief and confusion as she stared at you like you were some sort of extraterrestrial being. “You – what?”
A soft smile flashed over your face. “I like you,” you repeated. “I know I have been silent about that for so long but it’s true. I really like you.”
In one swift movement, you put the flowers back into her basket. When she raised an eyebrow, you chuckled softly. “You know why I’m giving them to you,” you said and reached out for her hand. “Listen, Aerith, I should’ve asked you weeks ago but – would you like to go out with me?”
Aerith smiled. “Took you long enough, (Y/N).”
“I know, I know. So?”
“I would love to go out with you.”

Okay so.
Why did they soften Tifa’s lines so much in that glimpse of the past? “I’m sick of them” is a lot different than “I hate them!” Especially shouting that over your father’s corpse. And it sounds kind of... dumb when it’s echoed at the Airbuster fight.
I also really strongly disliked the extra drama in the whole “we don’t need your help anymore” part with Barret, and how he treats Cloud like garbage. I really did like when he starts getting friendly with Cloud but. I don’t like that his one-eighty seems to come completely out of nowhere.
The Airbuster stuff was garbo. And the prizes from getting those M Powerups or whatever were absolutely not worth it. I think it was a really neat idea, but it wasn’t as well-executed as it could have been, and the fight itself just dragged on so loooong.
I did like the way they presented President Shinra. Even if I would have preferred him being in person. I’m not a huge fan of this nonsense about war with Wutai, though. Shinra selling a new war with Wutai feels a bit clunky. Especially monologuing about it like a Bond villain. It also feels like a diversion from a story that’s already busy with a thousand other things.
So then Cloud falls.
Another unnecessary Sephiroth.
And Aerith.
To be honest, fighting Reno here wasn’t a terrible decision. Like, I get that among other things, dropping barrels on security troops wouldn’t really work with this kind of game, even if they still worked in dropping something on one of them.
I did not like the sudden change of heart with the spirits. It feels messy. Especially with them blocking me from getting that materia and then the game forcing me to go aaaaaall the way to the station BEFORE allowing me to turn back, pointlessly WASTING MY TIME.
it’s just a bad design decision for what ends up being a relatively worthless materia, seriously.
But.
Aerith.
I love her. She is my girl. She is perfect and I hate how well these following parts are done. She’s an excellent foil for Cloud and a lot of this Sector 5 journey honestly feels like the strongest part of the game so far. There’s so much personality to all of it and it feels fuller, much more like something that was expanded on rather than something just shoved haphazardly in.
I like this part so far. A lot.
Also it was nice to talk to Chadley - what the hell kind of name is Chadley it’s a nerd name NERRRRD - and get like 4 missions instantly done because I have to scan EVERYTHING.
Then of course I decided to fight Shiva. I almost won and then she got pissed at me and blasted the hell out of me with Blizzaga, but then I came back angery and um. Summoned Ifrit, and stumbled her right before he used Hellfire so she got super-nuked.
A small thing that does bother me: the names. Like, I get why we’re not using Ice1, Ice2, Ice3, sure. But what about “Echo Mist” and “Rise,” “Arise,” and other stuff that also isn’t in line with other stuff in the Final Fantasy games. It just strikes me as weird. Like it’s trying to be unique, but also not.
Little splinters.
But at least this part has been good so far. And even Rude showing up does make sense, with him being Reno’s partner and all.
Still. At least I’m really enjoying this part of the game so far.

Fun with Zodiac Signs: Zack/Aerith/Cloud/Tifa
NOTE: Not really shipping related, this is just for fun I was idly doing based on tweet that came up on my timeline and people who try it are freak out of how accurate it is; even those who doesn’t really believe about personality traits from zodiac sign. This is the tweet:
So I went to “universal-tao-eproducts” and got what I copy-paste below. The sun signs are taken from their official bday. To get the moon one, you need to put your birth place in Birth Chart. I put Texas as Cloud & Tifa’s birth place for Nibelheim’s reference and the result is crazy accurate for them. I have no idea about Aerith which city in our earth similar to Icicle Inn so I pick the combination of moon sign that describe Aerith the most. As for Zack, since his bday isn’t given by SE (ugh, why?)... so this is the most accurate combination for me to headcanoning his bday^^.
AGAIN, THIS IS ACCURATE AS FUCK.
Zack Fair -- HC: Sep 23-29, 1984: Libra Sun, Sagittarius Moon (air/fire) why up to Sep 29? because he died on Sep 30
FREEDOM FIGHTER
You must have the room to believe and do, as you want. You most admire honesty, both in yourself and in others. You are never fearful to do what you think is moral or to say precisely what you feel. Your outlook is idealistic and your perspective is broad and extensive, but you may have some bewilderment when you find that others do not always match your standards of integrity or subscribe to your strange beliefs. You draw people to you with your free-spirited, courageous, and cheerful nature. Because your character is very self-governing, excitable, and restive; freedom is what you need most. You become incensed when someone tries to limit your expressive style or infringe on your way of life, even though you are even-tempered in most cases. Seeing the world through rose-colored glasses is a Libra-Sagittarian preference, so even if you believe you are always being truthful and uncomplicated in your dealings, there are times when brutal idealism stops you from perceiving the whole truth. Do not allow philosophy to rule every move or blind you to the more pragmatic parts of life just because your convictions are admirable. You like to play with abstract notions and ideas as an intellectual and details always slow you down. You prefer thinking about the infinite of surveying the universe to balancing your checkbook. Many of your lofty ideas can be put to good use in a more practical realm. Nothing is better for the Libra-Sagittarian than to go off on an African safari or an Alaskan expedition, so go ahead and book your ticket. Any sort of physical exercise is good for you. You are an idealist with love, as with all things. Fantasizing about your perfect lover is usually the start. You are a great lover and are giving, affectionate, and open. Unfortunately most of them stay stuck in your mind, just because you lack discipline. Mix it with some good old-fashioned common sense and think of what you could do with all that inspiration. The barriers have been broken before. Imagination is a very powerful aspect of your combination. Do not let your overactive mind take you off into Fantasy Land in the middle of a chat or a day at work. Fantasy is not a substitute for experience, but you admittedly you do need both to be healthy. It is likely that you feel a need to travel to faraway lands because your Libra-Sagittarius combination has a lot of restless energy and inquisitiveness.
Aerith Gainsborough -- Feb 07, 1985: Aquarius Sun, Pisces Moon (air/water)
TRUE BELIEVER
You are a very kind and helpful person and are able to identify and sympathize with almost everybody. Your innocent soul is humble, generous, and sensitive. You know the difference between right and wrong because you have an innate sense of integrity and wisdom. But your spirituality is not always synchronized with pragmatic common sense. You have no cunning or shrewdness and are completely trusting. Your faith in other is total and you would be eaten alive if other people were not so kind to you. Fortunately people never fail to respond in a positive way to your innocence. There is a dreamy look that Aquarius-Pisceans have and it seems they have just woken up and do not know where they are. This approach is used in everything, as though existence is carried on in several dimensions. If you see the entire world at once, you get mixed up because you cannot really separate the parts. It is possible a religious path might be for you because you are quite spiritual. Some Aquarius-Pisceans are even drawn to the monastic life. Furthermore, you may be especially tuned in to the occult and the mysterious. More mainstream people find this quite odd about you. Your imagination is strong and you have a very visual mental framework. Given the right motivation and teaching, you might be an artist or other creative entrepreneur. However you must acquire some direction and discipline from others to be successful. Without this, you are a ship with no rudder to guide you to your destination. You are a sponge for the stress or feelings around your environment. That is a strong influence on you. Meditating, reading, or listening to music from time to time is good for you. However, you must be careful that isolation does not take you away from involvement with others. High technology or heavy competition is not suited for you as a career. Involve yourself in a profession where you can use your compassionate and humanitarian feelings. Or perhaps think in terms of using your powerful clairvoyant skills. Because of your detached character, people might think that you are uncaring. Aquarian detachment may lead others to believe that you are not very sensitive, but the opposite is actually true.
Cloud Strife -- Aug 11, 1986: Leo Sun, Scorpio Moon (fire/water)
VACILLATOR
You relish a good battle and, in fact, if there is not a lot of competition, you feel somewhat cheated and let down. You are very motivated and determined, even though you show a playful image to the world. You probably believe that, if you ever revealed yourself, you would give your enemies an advantage, even though most of your enemies exist solely in your mind. Consequently you are very secretive in order to protect yourself. You view yourself and humanity with the greatest importance and you are a very intense Leo. Your approach is almost always a serious one. Jokes at your expense are not thought of kindly. You generally have a master plan for life, and you carefully follow it because you are purposeful, bold, and aggressive about everything. A kind of wall is built around you. You desire all the comfort, authority, and control you can get from life. You like material possessions and are sensual. Nothing can hold you back after you have set your sights on a job, toy, or romance. You go after your aims with quiet firmness, and your charisma, self-assurance, and ruthless willpower help you to get them. You have a lot of determination, fortitude, and a strong sense of purpose because both signs of your combination are fixed, but that also makes you obstinate and rigid, especially pertaining to your beliefs. It is very hard for you to accept the views or opinions of others. You are very independent and you seldom compromise. You have a very low stress threshold thanks to your rigidity. Aggression, irritation, or injured pride cannot be held in for very long and it is generally released quickly. You are obstinate and somewhat spirited. You are very insightful and astute to the ways of the world unlike most Leos. Finance, management, and business attract you, as do most things involving competition. You have probably experienced strong creative desires, however. A Scorpio Moon can inspire and assist the creative needs of the Leo Sun. You rarely follow through on those artistic desires because you are so worried about instant gratification including things such as when you might get your promotion or have your next sexual conquest. You might be the next van Gogh or Picasso if you would redirect some of those sensual drives and use some restraint. In this lifetime, when there is so much going on, your creative talents are not likely to find an outlet.
Tifa Lockhart -- May 3, 1987: Taurus Sun, Cancer Moon (earth/water)
PROVIDER
There is an insecurity and restraint about you too. This results in a person who shows an exterior that is stable, while internally there is insecurity. There is a gentle kindness in you that attracts others. You also have a charming and tactful nature to go with it. You realize that aggression does not work nearly as well as diplomacy. Handling people well is an inborn trait, as is your almost instant adaptability to situations. You seem to be on everyone’s side at the same time. You carry yourself with an air of confidence. You are controlled in your approach to life and this makes you seem secure. This combination has a Taurus side that is dedicated, motivated, and sensual. The Cancer aspect shows sensitivity along with imagination. Caution is necessary if you do not want to lose your own identity in this process of trying to please everyone. As you move on in age, do not allow yourself to become self-satisfied and smug because a big part of you is easily satisfied with your life. Push yourself beyond what you see as your limitations and this will surely help round out your life. It would be a shame to waste your numerous strong points and talents. Creativity in design or architecture are places you can showcase your wonderful imagination and artistic talents. However, professions that provide more financial security because of your Moon in Cancer attract you. Undertaking a career that is a gamble is unlikely because it goes against your basic nature. The Taurus powers of concentration and the Cancer Moon provide an ability to understand and remember what you have learned. However, you also keep a ledger grounded in emotions such that you remember every insult, rejection, threat or other circumstance for a very long time. You pout in preference to discussing your feelings of hurt or anger. You can become a cynical and sluggish person if you experience a serious emotional setback in the form of rejection. Obviously, releasing negative feelings like anger is best for you and this means expressing them openly. Aggression is almost unknown to you because you are a peaceful person. Luckily, the vast majority of people respond to you kindly because you will probably not come to your own defense. Occasionally though, it is imperative to state your views.
COMPATIBILITY & STORY RELATION
FYI, Sun Sign represent exterior self, ego---dictates what we want out of this life, how we view the world, and how we interact/express with others. Moon sign represent inner self---especially when you’re alone, a personality that is often unknown to others unless they’re so close to you and understand you on that level, reflecting emotion/feeling, desire, and fear.
Zack & Aerith’s sun sign is air; the most expressive tribe. Air sign is social butterfly, flirtatious, and they quickly drag you to their life. They are truth-seeker to put their right belief onto before action and curious about many things in the world. You also could see them externally similar as fuck and being happy couple, no need explanation, do you agree? Meanwhile, as the one who has fire element under the sun sign, Cloud has the highest ego and fiery personality upfront. You see how he alienated himself and pick up fights since kid because he thinks he’s the best of everyone. He’s also someone who hardly admit his weakness and prefer to cover it. But his exterior energy matches Zack’s inner self. His desire of what he want to become is what Cloud carries for the rest of his life and put into real action. Like the name, Earth sign, Tifa is the most grounded character and the most stable outside while Zack-Aerith-Cloud are turbulent/chaotic people.
Surprisingly, Aerith-Cloud-Tifa are emotionally similar as they all carry water element as their moon sign: sensitive, depth of feeling, private, empathetic. So they all can be compatible each other to understand feeling while Zack is the most rational one who uses mind more than heart. The difference is... As Pisces, Aerith is the most selfless. As Scorpio, Cloud is the most secretive. As Cancer, Tifa is the most nurturing. Meanwhile, Zack & Tifa has no compatibility, both of their sun and moon sign are all opposites. Story-wise, they also have no interaction other than a week in Nibelheim where Tifa guided Zack to Nibel reactor, texted him about blond SOLDIER, and he felt responsible for the incident happened to her.
PS: I also search for Barret (Dec 15, 1972) and tweet it on my Twitter account, he’s Zack’s reversion: Sagittarius Sun-Libra Moon; probably gonna do more characters!

I noticed something that sort of ticks me off in Case of Tifa. After Cloud does a delivery for Elmyra to take a bouquet to Aerith's grave he starts staying away from Tifa and Marlene. But then after he finds Denzel and says that Aerith brought Denzel to him and decides to let him live with them and save him from geostigma, Cloud starts being back at home more often again. Did Cloud really start spending more time at home again just b/c of Aerith, and decided to save Denzel just b/c of her?
Hey anon.
The AC/CoT stuff seems to be a popular topic recently. I think it’s good that people are watching ACC and reading the novels since I think it’ll be important to understand both as Remake moves along. They’re pulling all pieces of the compilation into Remake, and the novels are no exception, since Leslie, Marle, and Kyrie have already made appearances.
The delivery to the Forgotten City caused a old wound to be ripped open. The point of ACC is to show Cloud’s guilt for letting (in his mind) Aerith die. They also tie in Zack since he also feels immense guilt and sadness over that. In CoT they only really say that Cloud does feel guilty because he feels like he couldn’t protect Aerith and prevent her from dying. I don’t think that’s romantic - he was supposed to be her bodyguard and we know from Cloud’s history that he takes these things very seriously. He failed at preventing her from being killed, so he lives with that guilt.
Tifa also has a lot of guilt surrounding Aerith’s death and the Sector 7 plate collapse. They mention her guilt a ton of times, and I find it interesting that it’s not something that’s talked about often online. It’s always about Cloud’s guilt.
Here’s something an anon wrote in that I think is a great summary:
Anon Ask/Statement on Cloud’s Guilt
Tifa’s first time at the Forgotten City, which is shortly after the first defeat of Sephiroth, causes her to break down. The one thing that’s interesting in CoT is Tifa’s guilt slams her almost immediately, while Cloud is the one who seems to be holding it together to support her.
We see that he’s willing to try and help her be strong. At this point, I’m not sure if he’s fully aware of the amount of guilt that’s settling within him. The point where it really seems to slam him is after he does the delivery for Elmyra. He has PTSD associated with the Forgotten City. I would assume anybody would. I would whether I knew a person closely or not if I saw them murdered in front of me. Especially if I attempted to kill them myself right before.
Cloud also just generally has PTSD from everything else that’s happened to him. He lost his mother violently, his hometown was burned down, he watched the girl he’s in love with almost die, he was experimented on for four years and then ultimately watched his best friend die in front of him. He’s got a lot of shit going on and now add a reminder of ANOTHER incident in his life, he’s going to spiral.
Cloud also has a tendency to close in on himself. He doesn’t want to be a burden and he’s scared of hurting those he loves. It’s very possible that during this point, he didn’t want to worry Tifa anymore than she already was. So he begins to avoid them. Tifa also is non-confrontational at this point so isn’t going to push him.
For the Denzel piece: Cloud sees Denzel as a way to repent for his sins of letting Aerith and Zack die. He says Aerith sent Denzel to him not in a romantic sense, but (in his mind) as a way to be forgiven.
Now, we know Aerith doesn’t blame Cloud for her death. She tells us that in AC. This is all in Cloud’s mind that he’s a failure and he causes all these issues. He’s very selfless, but ends up seeming selfish because he really does pretty much self implode.
It’s not the first time he does this, either. When Tifa falls from Mt. Nibel - he blames himself. He goes through this time when he just becomes and asshole and beats people up. This is the event that causes him to decide to become a SOLDIER. He wants to win Tifa over.
He never tells anybody why he wanted to join SOLDIER. They show that during the Lifestream when Tifa asks him why. It was a sudden decision to everyone around him. Most likely not to Cloud - because Cloud was in his head coming up with all of this stuff. Ultimately, he wanted Tifa to notice him. He wanted to win her over and prove he could protect her. That was his driving force behind joining SOLDIER.
So now we’ve covered this is just the way Cloud is. In Tifa’s case, he already had a crush on her, so that just grew from there into this deep desire to win her over. In Aerith’s case he didn’t have as strong of a connection to her - he didn’t know her as long - and he was “contracted” to be her bodyguard. He takes these things seriously.
Cloud and Tifa take Denzel in and Cloud becomes obsessed with finding a cure for Geostigma. We see the books and papers on his desk in Advent Children - so we know this is something he was really looking in to. I relate - I did the same thing when my dad had cancer. You can get into these moods and forget about everything else. Usually somebody has to try and slam you out of it, but it’s hard.
Tifa also sees Denzel as a way to retribution. She has a lot of guilt over what she did with Avalanche and the Sector 7 plate collapse. Denzel lost his parents in the Sector 7 plate collapse.
Here is the conversation the two of them have that I think people take out of context. Cloud didn’t say Aerith brought Denzel to him for romantic reasons. He sees it as another chance to save a life. He tells us this - directly. Tifa feels the same was, as we see in the earlier excerpt. If anything, Aerith knew both Tifa and Cloud needed some help here with their inner turmoil.
On top of it, Tifa feels that Denzel’s arrival strengthened their family. I would think if this was an old flame thing happening, she may feel a bit differently. Cloud decided to cut back to spend more time with the children. This has nothing to do with Aerith. It is also mentioned on a previous page that the bar was starting to lose business because people started realizing a kid with Geostigma lived there. Cloud, Tifa, and Marlene never mention this to Denzel, and instead, they continue to embrace him as part of their family.
Honestly it’s pretty warm and fuzzy - even though all the darkness in this chapter - Tifa and Cloud are pretty good parents, especially since they’re young and it was kind of thrown on them. Also, it wouldn’t really be nice if Cloud was like “hey I’m dropping another kid off for you to deal with while you’re working the bar and all.”
As for the very last paragraph: We find out later that Cloud ends up with Geostigma and that’s why he left. It was the straw that broke the camel’s back sort of thing. Not only was he failing at saving Denzel, but he also now had what he knew to be a terminal illness in many cases. He now feels he can’t do anything and he runs. He tells us this in AC.
I don’t think Tifa imagined the promise - because things ultimately end up being okay. Cloud just really thought he was going to die and was going to fail her - being dead means he can’t fulfill his promise to her.
Here’s an excerpt from Case of Denzel. He mentions Tifa, Cloud, and Marlene. Not just Cloud. He sees them all as his family. He also mentions all of the folks along the way. The bulk of Case of Denzel is him getting to the point of being found at the church. It’s not just about his time with Cloud and Tifa - it’s Denzel’s journey. Johnny is in this one a lot.
Ultimately, I do have issues with the way Advent Children was handled outside of Japan. Without the novels, it does seem like Cloud is just a depressed mess. You don’t really know why he’s a mess. You know he has Geostigma and you know he feels guilty. Some people took it as him pining for Aerith. Watching ACC and reading the novels, I didn’t get that at all. Many people became Cloti fans because of Advent Children. They were acting like a married couple going through a rough patch.
They really do only mention his guilt in the novels and his issues with not being able to protect her. We do not have an official “Case of Cloud” so really can only go based on what the other characters are seeing with him and what he’s told them. As I’ve said in previous posts, there’s not canon evidence that his feelings were romantic - especially post Lifestream.
The novels were released AFTER Advent Children in the US and I don’t think it was very well known. Most of the people I’ve talked to that are casual fans never saw Advent Children as romantic for him and Aerith. Especially since Zack was around. The ending alone makes people laugh when they find out they think Cloud and Aerith had any romance - he calls her “Mom” - her boyfriend is there with her and they’re acting like foster parents.
I think with Remake, they’ll make things a bit more clear. I think ACC does a good job of making the guilt feel a bit more broad between Aerith and Zack. I wish it would have covered a bit more about Tifa’s guilt like Case of Tifa does, and maybe it would seem less romantic, since they seem to be having the same inner turmoil.
I think if people fully played OG, played Crisis Core, read the novels, and then watched ACC, they’d realize this all comes together pretty clearly. Dirge of Cerberus doesn’t show too much of he full original gang, but you do get to see a much happier Cloud and Tifa in it. The phone conversation is cute and hilarious - especially since since Barret is being ridiculous and Tifa yells at him.
Aerith and Zack are a thing. Cloud and Tifa are a thing. Cloud and Tifa have some serious problems with dealing with what goes on in their heads and it’s resolved by the end of Advent Children. Zack and Aerith give him that look at the end like “Alright, everything should be good now. Don’t disappoint us!”
I also really do not think Cloud is going to pine after his best friend’s girl. Cloud isn’t a douchebag. He’s a nice guy. He respects people. Zack was his one and only best friend. Zack saved his life. I really think if people would remember to pull Zack into these conversations, they’d realize that it’s ridiculous to think that Cloud was after his dead best friend’s dead girlfriend.

Final Fantasy VII: "Ideal" vs "Real"
First of all, English is not my mother language, any suggestions or corrections are welcome, I want to learn.
Second, this is just for entertainment purposes. I have a little free time and I want to distract myself from work. This it is merely theoretical
Third, if you disagree with something here, you can approach me in a kind way/ or feel free to ignore me.
Now… I don't know much about Body language so I won’t relate actual scenes here, but what I do know is about writing, I have a degree in Literature that includes, Audiovisual Media Script and Discursive Analysis. With that said, I want to proceed to develop certain aspects of FF7 story using a symbolic approach.
Let’s begging in the fact that one of the most common resources to convey real feelings in a story, for readers/viewers, is to take reference in personal feelings or seek inspiration in other people. Without this, representing a feeling successfully would be extremely difficult and possibly the same result will be superficial. FF7 not only takes inspiration in real emotions but also gives them preference over other feelings. With that clear, let’s start off the assumption that the entire plot of FF7 pushes us to meet and cherish reality. This is mostly represented in the REAL being hidden in the protagonist, but also in the events around him, including dreams and aspirations of other characters, to obtain one of the most basic emotional conflicts: "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans”.
The story is about finding ourselves and what we want. This is why the concept of "Reunion" becomes a pivotal element throughout the entire plot. The path we walk shapes us and shows us the truth, finding parts of ourselves, and losing others. Yes, is about what happens when we lose someone we love, but not only in a tragic way but in the aftermath: How these losses are also part of us and help us to discover and reconnect with our true selves and with people around us at the moment we live, is about forgiveness, second chances and to appreciate what we have, while we still have it.
The story shows us different examples of how sometimes in the constant search for this “IDEAL”, we forget to live the present and value who we are and what we have: Sephiroth, was this great soldier loved and respected by everyone, but he abandoned all this, in his ambition to become a god, while Shinra, is this company with a dream, of bringing the promised land to earth, even though in search of that dream, they were destroying the world that will become this Paradise; even Avalanche tried to save people from living in a land without future, in their path affecting the people they wanted to save. Although their actions seems to be justified, but that's another subject. There are more examples of this kind of behavior, but now we will focus on Cloud:
Cloud left his hometown to become worthy in the eyes of others and the girl he always wanted, but more importantly to become worthy in his own eyes. Tifa didn't believe he wasn’t good enough; it was he who didn't feel good enough for her. Cloud didn't appreciate himself enough to see what he already had, and in his quest to become this IDEAL man, he ended up losing everything, including himself. This is one of the reasons why Sephiroth is the main antagonist of the plot, he represents the ideal Cloud wanted to pursue, his dream was to be like him, and that’s the reason why Sephiroth moves in those instances around him, as something effusive and deceptive, that drags him away from that he loves, and from himself. He represents something unreal.
The meteor is one of the strongest symbols in the game. Everything that descends from the sky has a sacred implication, however in the simplest way; a meteor is a shooting star. The “shooting star” is the "idealization" the “illusion”, but in fact, a meteor is a visible passage of an incandescent rock breaking into pieces at the moment it contacts with Earth's atmosphere, that's all it is. So Sephiroth summoning a meteor to destroy the earth makes perfect sense. He is the representation of those false "ideals", what is "wrong" and false. This shooting star that holds dreams and aspirations, and was so beautiful and striking from afar, can be transformed into something violent, and a force capable of destroying everything we have and cherish. A wish is a driving force, for better or worse.
In another hand, shooting stars also represent change and spiritual destination, a reminder of connection with the universe. In one symbolic approach, stars are the representation of the union between soul and matter; so it's not weird that one of the strongest meanings of a shooting star besides luck and dreams is the rise and fall of a human soul. In certain cultures, the shooting stars represent a human soul that left the physical world, but is still connected to earth through the spiritual world, and seeing a shooting star is a sign that that person is still around looking for a way to land. So yes, it's also about landing and destination. Cloud being deceived and trap for his dreams, and later reuniting with his former being, mind, and body, and accepting himself, is the point of the whole story. He becoming REAL.
And of course, the reality is different from dreams. In the real world, not everything is easy, not everything is happiness, he will feel pain, sorrow, and grief, love would be complicated, but it will be real. By this time he will know to value this reality the way it is, not the way he wanted it to be. This will not only lead him to face his fears, and realize his own worth. But also will lead him to face the pain of what he lost and eventually to heal.
I have read many people saying that Nojima's words: "Perhaps things would have gone well with Aerith" (comparing the relationship with Tifa) it's proof that if Aerith lived, Cloud would choose her instead of Tifa. But I must disagree with that, and to justify this, I want to leave any visual facts or personal toughs aside, and focus on what it works for the plot only and concerning the aforementioned. Although the author wanted to imply a kind of "ideal" in the relationship between Aerith and Cloud that doesn't mean she is the person for him for purposes of the story. Yes, perhaps with Aerith everything would be easier —but that's the tricky part here— in the REAL world, not always the person who is the "ideal" for us, is the one we want. Real love is not "easy", it's complicated and we must do our part to forge it, it doesn't come night to morning. Cloud choosing Aerith over Tifa would destroy all this wonderful work in the plot, it would be Cloud throwing the real love of a girl who always wanted him, and was his link between reality and his true self. And it's telling us, not only that the person he was before was not worthy of love, but also, that if you want to get "the good stuff" you have to give up to yourself and despise everything you already have, because “isn’t good enough”.
Nojima's complimentary words "But Aerith's responsibility is big" also could/seem to imply something about Aerith’s character, not as Cloud's love interest. Meaning that her "responsibility" is not the reason why she and Cloud cannot be together. Even if she and Cloud relation would be ideal, the role of Aerith in the story is more important.
In the plot, Aerith not only fulfills the role of being the last Cetra of the world, but she also has the function of showing other characters to appreciate what they have, at the moment they have it. In the end, Aerith is the protector of the real world, a flower that although fragile and perish is beautiful and attached to the earth, she saves the life in the world from the meteor, which symbolically represents something hard and alienated from ourselves, these desires Sephiroth transformed into something grotesque and harmful.
But Aerith also represents herself something utopian, which although beautiful is not compatible with the real world completely. She represents hope, and eternal reunion in the Promised Land with those we lost, those we will lose, and love. And that’s the reason why she can’t stay in the real world either.
Even if Aerith lived, Cloud would still choose Tifa, for the simple reason that Tifa is the person he always wanted, the person he loves. Tifa is his redemption. It will be ups and downs because this time will be real; but it will be better, something intense and tangible, not something that only sleeps in his mind. He will get that by being himself, and by appreciating the person he really is. This will be his second chance and his TRUE opportunity of REAL happiness.

alright, so. i beat remake last weekend, but i didn’t want to come out with my newfound yufi information + meta right off the bat. i think this is an appropriate time to do so now, though. naturally, i’ll tag as spoilers, but if you need anything else, let me know.
also, my verdict? i am so glad i went into this blind, without any hype or expectations or people from fandom whining about it. yet again, i am so happy + i had an incredibly joyous experience. this game fed me + also took over my life in a way i’ve not been possessed in some time so like......... good for it.
also no, i truly don’t miss hearing everyone’s hullabaloo + i don’t wanna hear ur complaints of “ it didn’t say when part 2 is ” so like miss me with that.
also warning: if u didn’t know already, fandom is WILD towards y.uffie for some reason and i also addressed that, so like if you’re from vii fandom u might seriously wanna read this bc... it’ll be pertinent to u understanding my feelings behind it. i did address some questionable topics like the underaged oversexual portrayal + beastality that’s popular for her and i am NOT HERE FOR IT so if u came for that................. issa no from me dawg. when i say unbearable.... i mean it. fandom grossed me out. y’all wild.
anyway. thoughts below !
some things that were CONFIRMED for me were:
> midgar is lax around its anti-wutai rhetoric in its most important parts ( namely, hq, wall market, and avalanche ). for propaganda’s sake among the common people, it stands to create a united front. but in consumerism & in strength, they consider the wutai equals just as anyone else.
see: tseng in the turks; madam m in wall market; the supplier for avalanche.
i would even argue that sector 5 / wall market is the safest place in midgar for wutaians, given don corneo’s obvious fetishism ( and that really............. isn’t saying a lot ).
i’m not going to entertain that it’s an “ admiration for culture and architecture ” in true weeaboo fashion given that of all positions he could give madam m to hold, her duties are to screen women that would be appealing to his aesthetic and to run a massage parlor where the highest bidder gets to have a happy ending. she is literally the “ asian parlors are actually fronts for brothels ” stereotype except in this sex trade, all women go to don corneo. i will have no apologists in this house.
i have more developing thoughts on madam m like how she might be doing the sex trafficking part in her own self-interest / as a type of self-preservation, like the don might say “ well if u don’t want to be a wife then u better find some for me ” but... 1) this isn’t the post for that and 2) that logic does not explain why chocobo sam and andrea rhodea are also apart of the ring. but in my opinion, you can tell she’s not crazy about it bc as soon as aerith mentions it to her she becomes so wildly upset that she breaks character. i don’t think she’s a sell out. i think she’s an exploited and fetishized woman in a tough place, and i feel for her.
despite this, it’s clear that because of his obvious ‘ preference ’ they’re [ wutaians ] held at a higher standard ( i.e., he doesn’t dispose of madam m immediately like he does with every other woman who is unfortunate enough to meet him ), so i’m willing to go out on a limb and say despite the high amount of shinra foot traffic that goes through wall market ( and we know this bc everybody who is everybody from SOLDIERS to Turks go to honeybee inn ), a wutaian would probably be fine there.
> wutai is the strongest world power by natural means. without SOLDIER s & g programs, midgar’s biggest claim to fame is to reach first-world status as a metropolis by siphoning mako via its reactors. without its reactors, the whole town would either be: 1) slums, like below the plate; or 2) as common as every other area in the nearby vicinity ( i.e., kalm, costa del sol, nibelheim ). by siphoning mako energy, midgar truly is unnatural, so... hm...
corel could have been a contender ‘cause they use fossil fuels ( and look at how successful gold saucer is! ), but the failed reactor really threw them out the loop. costa del sol + icicle inn are both partially shin-ra owned / managed, so i’m not counting them.
> infiltrating midgar / shinra isn’t difficult. nor is navigating throughout the sectors. while there is the mention of the ID scan on the trains, we see this is not applicable on foot ( freely able to walk through sectors 5, 6, 7, and 8 as party; jessie + co are able to go above the plate to go to her parents’ house despite already being listed as AVALANCHE and that their fake IDs had already expired ). given that yufi entirely travels on foot because of her airsickness / motion sickness, she’d be undetectable. also note that the first 59 floors of shinra hq by stairwell are not monitored... and neither was the front door, so she could easily sneak in whenever the need called for it.
> established multiple points of contact between rufus + yufi ( and by extension, the turks + yufi ). i’m really going into this in the next section ‘cause... their dynamic became so much more interesting. but we already know that at minimum, there was contact bc she had the phs rufus had provided to godo + was using it to communicate with zack for treasure.... but let me hold off on this bc there’s one more thing i want to add here.
regarding the turks: it’s established that even if a person is someone of interest to shin-ra, they won’t necessarily act on attacking or abducting immediately ( see: aerith ). we already know they’ve known yufi since she was a child, and if they’re working with rufus they’d know what she looked like as she aged, so the excuse of “ she looks different than when they worked with her in wutai ” is out the window. it’s more than likely that they’re enabling her to continue her business with rufus + have probably assisted her with not being caught.
> yufi’s clothes are absolutely normal for her age. it always annoyed me that somehow tifa’s clothing was like considered “ impractical but acceptable ” because she’s a legal adult and because cishet men were too drawn to the boobies to complain. but then yufi was either like HELLA sexualized as a minor ( the amount of ecchi / hentai that exists of underage y.uffie despite there being of-age content [ i.e., her portrayals in advent children + dirge of cerberus ] is.......................................... ridonk ) OR she was like hella slut-shamed and i’m out here like.... hello??? what kinda anti-wutai rhetoric is this? anyway. i’d like to call attention to kyrie, who looks like she’s wearing like 60% of y.uffie’s dirge of cerberus outfit. if anything, this only reinforces that yufi’s fashion choices are.......... legit normal, age appropriate, and anyone who wants to argue otherwise can shut the fuck up.
if you’re really gonna ask “ how come her shorts are unbuttoned ” like go check your privilege. the short answer is probably that rufus stole all of her damn belts to make into his coat. the long answer is that a youth traveling the world SOLO she is probably slim on money to be frequently shopping for clothes ? and the clothes that are available in the slums vs on the plate are probably not great quality ( idk if y’all have ever shopped at a freesized open market before but like... buttons pop off INSTANTLY sometimes and those seams will tear if u stretch the wrong way. like fast fashion but like........ hella wild ). she could find better clothes above the plate, but given the anti-wutai rhetoric up there... probably not a wise choice.
since you’re looking at her outfit anyway.. can i bring your attention to her sweater, and have you note that it’s made of the same material as cloud’s? i.e., she’s wearing shin-ra/SOLDIER brand quality? ( need further proof that it’s SOLDIER? zack and angeal wear the same one ) probably gotten from either a trip to hq or........ someone on the inside............ but obviously cropped to fit her. she might’ve even had it for some time. now let’s keep looking.... i’m willing to bet the latter, and here’s why! ( prepare for galaxy brain time )
now for standard SOLDIERS, they’re assigned colors. we know third class / infantrymen are blue; second class are burgundy / red ( think kunsel ); and black / dark blue for first class. don’t nobody wear green.... in this whole damn universe.... as a main character.... except child y.uffie. HMMMMM. here’s the sweater again to compare.
i’m just saying.
now, the ideas INTRODUCED to me were:
> there is only one AVALANCHE, but it is splintered into different factions.
now i always wondered like, how come they just picked up the name AVALANCHE when it was established already. like idk i don’t think people would be like “ ah yes we’re the n.azis and we’re different than the other ones, but we wanna evoke the same fear ” u know what i mean?? usually u would carry the same ideology... but it was always so apparent that barret held different views and goals than elfe, so i was always so confused.
but not anymore. now it’s established that they’re the same group, begun in midgar + just carrying out different methods of “ fuckin’ shit up for the shin-ra ” over the last 10 years, spreading the word about the danger of reactors + it’s suckin’ up the lifeblood of the planet to anyone who would hear. now that makes sense. in the same chapter that this is established, however, they also claim...
> yufi as a benefactor to AVALANCHE.
now this shit had me like AAAAAAAAH. now there is no damn way you and i played the same game if u didn’t see this. they literally say “ AVALANCHE is being provided weapons by someone to fuck shit up, in return for all the materia in midgar. ”
who would want all the materia in midgar? HMMMMMMMMM.
> with that point established, let’s go back to rufus + yufi having multiple points of contact. so i already introduced the idea that rufus clearly has to have contact with yufi bc he’s the one spouting all the secrets to shinra treasure via the PHS. and yufi has claimed ownership of the phone by literally labeling it as “ treasure princess ” so there is no question that he thinks he’s talking to godo versus yufi.
but we also know that rufus is the person behind AVALANCHE. my man has TIME on house arrest, obviously. we also know that he’s on house arrest in junon, not midgar. now, if he’s out here giving them logistics like places to go to spout their rhetoric, and yufi is providing weapons ( remember, wutai is the strongest power by natural means, and apparently hq is free real estate to explore, so she’s got multiple ways to provide gear without it being an inconvenience to her ), so it’s.........pretty obvious to say that the way she would go in connection to AVALANCHE would be through rufus. also, remember she has bad blood with AVALANCHE because of their actions in wutai, so... she’s not gonna be keen about them anyway. it seems much more practical for someone who already views them ( and tbh, lots of people ) as tools ( rufus vc: “ i own you ” ) to accomplish one’s tasks to help her connect with meeting her own goals ( “ all the materia in midgar ” ).
this would also explain why yufi is found hanging outside junon.
if you opted to grab her outside nibelheim... you might argue that it’s because nibelheim is obviously suspicious + truly the evidence at how shady shin-ra is, given the whole place was rebuilt + is filled with actors to hide the fact that the whole place burned to the ground + was once the site of jenova + currently remains the site as hojo’s secondary lab + other secret, vincent valentine with the protomateria slumbering. she could have been tipped off by rufus as “ there’s another treasure here ” but like... there’s no way she would have known it was vincent. even zack is like “ idk wtf is happening here so i’mma leave this alone. ”
also, i love that rufus uses “ heir to the throne ” verbage, which is so akin to yufi also being “ heir to the throne ” & look at them: spiteful children rebelling against their useless ass dads to create new world order + to destroy the old shin-ra company. i love that for them.
so in conclusion........ this game FED ME. god i wanna play it again and again. i beat it on normal and got everything except 1 treasure and 1 task from chadley. i also need to do all the combat simulators. but given i did what i could in.... 3.5 days, i’m not too upset by it. this game has so much replay value and... i can say i’m glad i bought it twice.
g.amestop give me my freaking shinra badge i’ve damn well earned it.
oh and two more things going forward:
> nanaki continues to sound old as hell. which duh, given advent children. but u know how they established him as a young teen in the og + so it made sense for y.uffie and nanaki to be friends ‘cause they were mentally the same age? i don’t...... see how that works now.
also.....y’all could have missed me with this shit already but STOP SHIPPING HIM WITH YUFI. NOW UR ONLY ARGUMENT IS GONE. STOP. i saw some art of nanaki & y.uffie fucking in the tags + floating around google and i was like....... WHY!!! and then there’s also weird hybrid art like what if they had a kid or something and i just........ STOP.
i have flashbacks of when i first started writing on tumblr + how i was bombarded by furries wanting to fuck bc of this. like deadass king dedede from kirby. later on i also saw sonic & even alligators ( not an alligator man.... tho i did see king k. rool + donkey kong as well........ i hated y’all for a hot minute ). it’s not even “ monster fucking ” it’s bestiality and I’M BEGGING YOU TO STOP. y’all can truly MISS ME WITH THIS.
however, u know, bigby wolf + everyone from castlevania could easily get it. stardust platinum where ya at. if i had to pick it would be....... more humanoid than a penguin or a “ lab rat dog ” u feel?
> i am not crazy about y.uffentine. look. i know it exists. i know it was big bc fandom was like “ optional character ship ftw! ” + then dirge of cerberus came out and y’all went wild ( to be fair, i get it, it was the only ship outside of NANAKI and BEING KIDNAPPED/ASSAULTED BY SHINRA SOLDIERS AS A CHILD that people could feasibly comprehend for y.uffie for some reason............................................................... it was an actually “ NORMAL ” person........ ) but like. i’m sorry. it’s not doin it for me. i’ve seen like two other y.uffie blogs out here that actually stick to canon so like if u want your y.uffentine that bad, like maybe ask them. but please don’t ask me.
ok i’m done for real now! thanks for reading !

@backwaterheroics / in response to: x.
zack fair has grown acclimatised to relying exclusively on himself. the treacherous pits of deepground have wrung the faith from him and assimilated him into their methods of survival: their lifestyle of anticipating the knife in one’s back before an opponent ever decides to place it there. three years of sleeping with one eye open, of waiting on the razor-edge between rage and fear for the next round of experimentation, or drowning in self-hatred whenever they make him fight and he catches sight of the blood crusted under his nails --- three years has taught him pain and solitude like nothing he has ever known. and he has clung to survival anyway, tucking away the decaying glimmer of hope in his chest that this might one day get better. that his friends are still out there. some of them. not all. not many. angeal, gone. genesis, who knows. sephiroth, gone. cloud, aerith. they’re still somewhere, aren’t they? there is light and life and warmth beyond deepground. he may have forgotten the precise airy smell of the flowers and the exact curve of cloud’s smile but they exist. zack gathers up the tatters of who he is and wraps them tight around that hope, like clinging to an anchor in a storm.
salvation comes in the form of weiss the immaculate. indirectly, anyway. his death. he rots under hojo’s influence and together they begin their reign over the world above, lighting the path out of the darkness and tarring it in blood. it is zack’s opportunity. the instant he crawls into the light he turns on his squadron, squashing what flares of guilt twist his stomach as his blade slides between ribs. ( his deepground-issue katana is lighter than the buster sword, not as hefty but far more adept at neatly cleaving skin. it feels strange in his hands, a desolate hunk of metal that isn’t his. ) sustained injuries are disregarded for now, blood wiped briskly from his face as he removes his helmet and tosses it aside. the streets are a mess; gunshots shatter the night and beasts prowl, dragging innocents into the shadows. and then, as fate would have it: a man in a ragged red cloak, faintly familiar. and a young woman --- older now, far older than zack remembers her being, an air of confidence and control about her now. yuffie kisaragi and vincent valentine. it is yuffie who stares at zack as if she’s seen a ghost, yuffie who grabs him as the force of his relief has him swaying on his feet. the first friendly face in years and she’s smacking at his arms, chiding him for vanishing, insisting he prove it’s really him and not some phantom deepground’s summoned up. ( zack reminds her of their treasure-hunting adventures and she gentles, and the world slows. ) he tells them all he knows, and then he succumbs to the loss of consciousness with the fragile hope that vincent will take care of it all. zack fair is exhausted and wounded and finally free. the slow return of reality is painful: he awakens in an unfamiliar bed, in a room he’s never seen before. his heart slams violently against his ribs. throat tight, he casts about for a weapon. he grasps a heavy book from a shelf and decides at least he can brain someone with it if need be. his legs shake beneath him as he ventures to the doorway, pausing to take in the smell of alcohol and food from somewhere below the staircase beyond. a bar? seventh heaven, tifa tells him later, after he’s done hyperventilating and lashing out at her. she avoids his initial smack with the book, hands gentle yet firm on his wrists as she encourages him to look at her, to understand she is not here to hurt him. he is in seventh heaven, in edge. deepground is gone. ( vincent took care of it all. ) zack is safe. it takes him a whole week to entertain the idea. in that time, he rapid-fires questions at tifa: what happened, how long has it been, where is cloud. she answers each carefully --- it’s a long story, three years, away on deliveries right now. you can speak to cloud when he gets back. the dim hope in zack’s chest grows, warily. perhaps this won’t be taken away from him. he doesn’t get to see cloud. he has so much to say, so much it’s whipped up into a frenzy in his head. does cloud not feel the same urgency? he returned, apparently, and left again. “did you... did you tell him i was here?” zack asks tifa, voice cracking. “yes,” she says, and the look in her eyes speaks volumes. she hands zack a rag, urges him to help her clean down her bar. she’s been giving him little tasks, as if she knows he needs to stay busy. “you have to understand, he... he isn’t the same as you probably remember. a lot has happened to him.” and so zack resolves to understand. he pushes his own impatience down, and nurtures the hope that cloud will see him in his own time. ( far more difficult to ignore is the hurt. weren’t they good friends? after everything they went through --- after everything. how can cloud not want to see him? ) two months crawl by. zack works in seventh heaven at first, until the guilt of imposing himself on tifa is too much. he falls into mercenary work then, with a sense of resigned amusement. fighting really is all he’ll ever do. he shops for a new sword, and then another new one when that doesn’t feel right. tifa insists he continue living above the bar, citing the children as reasons he should; they like him, she says. they don’t want him to go. he reads them stories at night and patrols the bar’s vicinity into the early hours. during the day, he spends time with yuffie or works on his new bike or undertakes increasingly dangerous jobs. the fractured feeling in his mind never quite goes away, but he thinks it might ease one day. when cloud returns again, drifting home like a wayward wind, tifa grabs him and makes him see zack. it’s a quick visit. it’s the sensation of something important slipping between one’s fingers: cloud stiff and unresponsive in his arms, eyes dull, as if zack were less than a stranger. like a static shock, it has zack flinching back, numbness tingling at his fingertips. he stands there, as unacknowledged as a specter, while cloud leaves again. he doesn’t think you’re really here, tifa explains. we all thought you were dead. oh. well then. that explains it. that barbed-wire feeling cinched round his heart. it’s the cold understanding that life has moved on without him and he is no longer a part of it. the zack fair everyone knew and remembered died riddled with bullets. but i’m alive, i never left! he wants to scream. the sense of being left behind is dizzying. cloud had moved on and now here zack is, tearing old wounds open. guilt batters him, sudden and strange. he goes to aerith’s church. the flowers are there, yellow as sunshine and pearly-white, suffusing the air with sweetness and life. but aerith is not. she has not been for a long time. the buster sword lays at the head of the pews like a memorial and suddenly it’s all too much. he falls to his knees and chokes on sobs. he stays there for days, murmuring to the flowers as if they might carry his apologies to aerith. eventually, little marlene wallace takes his hand and leads him back to seventh heaven. he follows in a daze and doesn’t notice when he’s led to cloud’s room and told to rest. ( he rests, his heart slowing its frenzied pulse. this feels like safety. ) he is not ready for cloud to return again. he thought he always would be, but the pain of coming to terms with aerith’s death is too fresh and sleep-deprivation has drained him. he is not prepared for more pain; it might shatter him. and yet here cloud is, slipping shadow-quiet into the room and staring with horror-struck eyes. “cloud, please,” zack finds himself whispering, praying. he is not aware of reaching out, but he registers how brittle cloud feels: like his violent shaking might rip him apart. nausea rises in zack’s throat. he is doing this. he is hurting cloud with every touch, poisoning him. “look at me,” he sobs anyway, selfish and unable to relinquish the certainty of cloud’s place in his life. in the end, it’s only more hurt. cloud, pale as a wraith, stumbles away and wails. the sound drives nails into zack’s heart. he gets tifa, because who else would they both rely on to fix their broken souls? the storm breaks, cloud sobs, and zack turns to leave. “i’m sorry, i’m so sorry,” he is vaguely aware of repeating, frantic. “cloud, i’m so sorry.” he should have died on that cliff. he should’ve died before deepground could ruin him, before he could walk back into a life that didn’t want him anymore. “are you giving up that easily?” tifa demands the next morning, as zack shoulders his bag full of meager belongings and tries to give her a hug goodbye. she stares him dead in the eye as he squirms. “you’ve barely tried yet.” zack doesn’t mean to raise his voice but it comes out in a burst: “yes! yes, i am. me being here only hurts him, i’m taking up space in your bar, there’s no place here for me!” it tastes like a lie. there has been a place, carved out just for him. the beginnings of home here with these people. but not if he’s only spreading hurt. “i can’t watch him scream and cry every time he sees me, tifa. i won’t. i’ll --- i’ll come visit. okay?” it’s not okay. he debates saying his farewells to cloud, but recognises it as an awful plan. he leaves his old shinra phone instead, the one he kept as a soldier. it’s fuzzy and barely in working condition these days, but he squirreled it away all these years just for the old pictures in its memory. “give that to him when he feels... better. okay? you have my new number if you need me.” he tells nobody where he’s going because he just doesn’t know anymore. it’s a good thing he’s already accustomed to relying only on himself.

FINALLY updating the short stories collection, I have so many of these things to finish and post. So many. (cries)
This one is a bit short, but sweet(ish?), but proves that I can, in fact, write things under 2k in length, hah.
Ven was alone when Axel walked into the room, although by the looks of it, Roxas hadn’t been gone long. The bed was still mussed and his computer sat locked but awake on the bedside table, a TRON animation idling as it waited for commands. Given that this was Roxas, Axel figured that meant he’d probably only stepped out for a minute, maybe taking a quick walk around the halls to stretch his legs, or maybe today was the day he’d decided to go for it and try walking to the bathrooms down the hall, courtesy of Demyx or some other nurse to babysit his progress. If he planned to be gone longer than a couple of minutes, the place would’ve been tidied. Even drugged-to-his-gills Roxas would’ve made the bed or straightened up a little if he planned to be gone long.
Roxas might’ve been out, but Ven was awake and upright in one of the chairs by the window, a large book laid out in his lap. He looked up at Axel’s approach and took his legs off the other char, making room for Axel to sit beside him. Axel was less than excited by the prospect of looking out over the parking lot, but Ven had made the effort and Axel could interpret the invitation for what it was, so he dropped his things onto the ground and snagged the chair to settle in and wait.
“Morning!” he said, leaning over to rummage in his bag for sketchbook and pencil. No sense in sitting idle, right? “Guess I’m a little earlier than planned, huh?”
“Aerith’s getting another scan, just to make sure the bone’s healed before the cast comes off,” Ven replied. Something in his tone made Axel look up and catch his eye. “I’m glad you’re here, though. I wanted a chance to talk in private.”
Axel stopped looking for his things and sat back in the chair, giving Ven a thoughtful look before nodding. “Figured you might, sooner or later,” he said. He waited for Ven to start, knowing that this had been a long time in coming, and knowing that it wasn’t going to be sunshine and daisies as they reminisced about the ‘good old days.’
“He’s 21, Axel,” Ven said, his voice laced with just a touch of sharpness. “You’re 27.”
“26,” Axel corrected, “and he’s an adult, capable of making his own decisions.”
Ven gave him a look, the same one Roxas used when Axel added hot sauce to french fries they’d agreed to share. “And you don’t think it’s... unusual for someone our age to be interested in someone who hasn’t even graduated school yet?”
Axel bit his lip, weighing his words before he spoke. “I think you’re not giving your brother enough credit,” he said at last, trying to soften it a bit. “You’ve been outta the loop for almost a year; Roxas has had to grow up pretty fast. I think you’d realize that if you just asked him. Have you? Asked him? What does he say about all of this?”
“He’s not in any condition to talk at the moment,” Ven said, waving aside that suggestion. “I plan to talk to him once they’ve lowered his pain meds. But you and I both know he’s not really mature or experienced enough to know the difference between a casual fling and something serious.”
Axel raised an eyebrow, tilting his head at that phrasing.
“You think I’ve just been playing with your brother? Is that what this is about? Because--and not that this is any of your business-- I’ve been pretty upfront with him from the get-go about what I wanted in the relationship.” Then it clicked, and he closed his eyes, briefly, before scowling at Ven. “Is the age thing what’s really bothering you? Or is it because we were friends first, and you’re angry that I got close to him, too?”
“Don’t be stupid,” Ven spat, but Axel could see the tension in Ven’s shoulders, and the thinning of Ven’s lips.
Axel leaned back, crossing his arms. He could push a little more, he knew; he’d always been good at reading his best bud in school. Better to ask about the elephant in the room, first, and they could work on the smaller complaints after that.
“Are you pissed he’s gay?” he asked.
“What? No!” snapped Ven, and that, at least, sounded genuine enough. Still, it had the desired effect. Ven sighed, forcing himself to relax more and fully explain. “I just feel like I don’t know you anymore, and what I remember from school isn’t the most… well, let’s just say I liked you as a friend, but you had a tendency to change interests pretty quickly.”
“Ok, first off, I was a teenager when we last hung out, so cut me some slack. So maybe I had a new date every month, I was young and impetuous and carefree. I was spreading my wings, looking for a good time and finding it.” He laughed, remembering some of the things he’d gotten up to that Ven wouldn’t have approved of-- probably not before he’d moved, and definitely not now as a cop. Then he shrugged, slouching further back into the chair.
“The old me would tell you that the new me is boring” he continued. “I have a good, steady job, I’ve been getting bigger in the local art scene, I make my rent on time, pay bills, I know how to cook more than cup noodles… basically, I’m an adult.” Axel’s smile slid into a smirk, and he lifted his eyebrow again. “You’d know that, too, if you’d made an effort to reconnect when you moved back to the city.”
“...that’s fair,” Ven said after a long minute, and he closed his eyes, rubbing a hand over his face as though he was trying to clear away what he wanted to say next. “I guess I just… didn’t know how. The last time I saw you, I was still angry about Reno. And then with everything going on at work, it didn’t seem like there’d be downtime, and that when there would be, it would’ve been awkward, given how long I’d waited. I dunno, it was a bunch of things, I guess. But mostly it was Reno, I think.”
“Yeah, I got that when you threw me out of the room that one time,” laughed Axel. That helped, the two of them laughing, and some of the tension left the room as they came to an unspoken truce of sorts. Axel shifted in his seat, managing a shrug, despite his slouched position.
“Look, I’ll admit that maybe we dove in the deep end and got in over our heads at the start, but I think we’re gonna try again and take things slower this time around.” He paused, remembering Ven’s earlier words, and grinned. “Ah, well, like you said, we’ll talk once he’s a little more coherent. I don’t think we should be planning much beyond dinner plans at this point, he won’t remember anything.”
They shared a chuckle over that, too, but Axel wasn’t quite done. He looked Ven in the eye, sitting up a bit straighter in the chair and crossing his arms, willing Ven to object. “That said, I like him, and frankly what we get up to is none of your business.”
Ven returned his gaze, unflinching, but in the end nodded once, apparently satisfied with that response. “I just don’t want him hurt,” Ven said at last.
Axel snorted, and leaned forward again to dig through his bag for supplies, conflict over. “That makes two of us.”

Final Fantasy XV Favorites :: Tag Game
THIS IS ANCIENT AND I THOUGHT I LOST THIS WHEN I WAS WORKING ON IT. BUT I FOUND IT AGAIN, SO LET ME FINISH IT!
I was tagged by @chocobro-hijinks, @julezrulezzz, and @ffxvwrites. Thanks for the tag, my friends!
Favorite Chocobro
Maaaaan, you’re asking me such a hard question off the bat? How come you’re doing this to me? Well, I think I can give you a different answer for different reasons.
Gameplay-wise in terms of combat mechanics, Ignis is by far my favorite to have played with. His combat was just so fluid, even in comparison to Noctis’s fluid armiger system he had going for him. And the incorporation with the elemental spelldaggers? That was super dope!
Relation-wise, I find myself being drawn to Noctis compared to the others in our group of protagonists. The idea of duty coming before oneself and the isolation leading to such a personality (and really sad sense of underlaying depression too), he’s a really relatable character because he’s got such realistic feelings behind it all.
Favorite Guest Party Member (including Ravus and Libertus from DLC)
PSSH. If any of you follow my blog, you’d probably know right off that bat that it’d be Ravus Nox Fleuret. Not because of my personal bias and obsession with High Commander Asshole over here, but because out of all of the other fighting styles, he was by-far the most in-sync with Ignis when he was featured in Episode Ignis as the companion. Not to mention his kit for combat is really cool! Lightning damage, high agility, and a devastating AOE attack? Oooh man, what a badass!
And he helps Iggy kick Onion Boy’s butt. c,: I think that’s really sweet of him.
Favorite Minor Character(s)
Why, Ravus again, of course! I feel like out of all of the characters -- sans the main four -- Ravus has by far the most interesting tale. At least, one that was actually got legitimate context on. It’s also really amusing, considering that Ravus, I think, got the most content add-ons compared to any other minor character in the game. He got Verse 2, he got Episode Ignis, he gets a facial model in Comrades. And he faced more crisis points in his story, which ultimately makes him one of the most well-rounded characters in the series. I adore him~
Favorite Villain
Oh, Ardyn for sure. It’s kinda weird to ask that because alot of the others characters in the story, I feel, were not really villains. Okay, maybe Verstael and Glauca were, but Ardyn seems to weed his way into their stories, and I think he’s what ultimately made these characters so evil to begin with. I mean, perhaps you could even argue that Verstael isn’t too bad either. He was once a really well-known and well-respected general and researching, and it wasn’t until Ardyn weaseled in that Verstael was twisted with a need for power. Heck, I think the Wiki even said that Verstael didn’t want to use humans for such a horrible project, but Ardyn convinced him otherwise.
Ardyn’s a monster. But the fact that he did such a good job at being a monster gives him a thumbs up from me in the villain book.
Favorite Kingsglaive Character
Hm... Not gonna lie, but I never really got too heavily invested in Kingsglaive -- it’s why I sometimes stay clear of writing much on it because I never found the characters to be too appealing, as they didn’t get much background or a chance to really grow on screen -- sans for Nyx, since he’s our protagonist.
I did really like Crowe alot though. She deserved better.
Favorite Astral/Divine Being
Probably Ramuh. Every time he appears, I have to shout ‘IT’S GRANDPA!’ He’s the best grandpa. c,:
Though I also really do like Bahamut alot -- even if he is kind of a dick. There was a reason why I threw in that Dragon Daddy Bahamut card to FFXV CAH, after all. ;D
Favorite Character Overall
I really like Ravus. Like, alot. So much that it’s probably unhealthy. Please call for a doctor.
Favorite Weapon
I’m a warpstriking whore, so I always have the Ragnarok sword equip whenever I play Noctis. Sometimes I forget that I could just attack and I end up warpstriking so much that I fall into Statis and go ‘WHY CAN’T I ATTACK?’ You have other moves, Steph. Use them. >:I
Favorite Location
I really like Lestallum alot for some reason. It’s a humble city, not too big, not too small, busy enough to always have something going down. I find myself in Lestallum more than anywhere else -- sans Altissia, but that’s because I need that x3 Leville there. v.v
Favorite Quest/Questline/Hunt
I really enjoyed that Legendary weapon questline that you get post-game. Forgot the name of it entirely, but those bossfights were super fun to take on! Though the last one was a bit too easy because I got pissed off and one-shot it with the Ring of Lucii. THOSE LASERS WERE JUST SO FRUSTRATING. But then again, it was my fault for trying to kill a level 99 enemy at level 60.
The Dread Behemoth timed hunt was pretty fun to do too! Fought him before the ring was buffed, and so it took me a solid hour or two to wail on him. Ran out of potions, ran out of teammates, but for some reason, Gladio was still standing enough to help keep me alive? Now that’s a good shield!
Favorite Boss
In terms of the story, I thought the Ravus boss battle was the most fun -- especially when I was screaming/crying the entire time. ‘What the fuck, Ravus?!’ ‘Ardyn, what did you do?!’ ‘DON’T GETSUGA TENSHO ME, YOU BASTARD.’ Yup, that was a fun fight. c,:
Favorite Monster/Monster Family/etc
I think my favorite monster... Is probably that Dread Behemoth again. In terms of boss-fights, that is. It’s one of the more challenging ones I’ve had, but it still has a nice little place in my heart~ In terms of design though, I really like the Chadarnook. So pretty, and the rotting wood motifs to highlight that ‘nature is beautiful, woman is beautiful, but so is death’ vibe? Aaaye~ Now that’s an example of a great design!
Favorite Songs
Somnus is probably my favorite track out of the soundtrack. Like, you know how each FF game has that signature sound that really just gets your eyes welling up for one reason or another? For me, Somnus really does that for me whenever I listen to it. Similar to To Zanarkand or Aerith’s Theme, the moment you hear those first notes it just gets you so immersed in the emotion all over again.
Favorite Boss Theme
Hm... I’m really torn... Perhaps in terms of legitimate boss theme, it’s Ravus Aeterna for sure. I mean, the composition of this song just is so chilling and reflects just how horrible the fight is the entire time, the dread and the torture that is to basically suffer and then be forced to put down a twisted and corrupted man who didn’t deserve such a fate. That, and when the song is basically called Eternal Ravus, it just makes you even more sad because RAVUS WAS PULLED BACK TO THIS SHIT. GIVE HIM A BREAK, PLEASE!
Veiled in Black is also a really nice battle song too, though it’s not for bosses really. c:
Favorite Non-Episode DLC/Update/Event
Dude, the Character Swap Update is, like, the sexiest thing they’ve done in the game, not gonna lie. Like, I didn’t think too much of it at first, but then I played as Prompto taking on the Grove dungeon, and I was screaming. It’s so cool and so useful...! Just wish you can legit run around as a different boy instead of just swapping back to Noctis.
Favorite Episode DLC
I feel like it’s almost unfair to compare. Episode Ignis is by far one of the best DLCs in my eyes -- especially when they took so much attention and care into that DLC over the others, I feel. That, and it made the most sense in the story plot, I feel, than the other DLCs.
That and, you know, Ravus.
Other Favorites of Note:
Everything.
Except for Chapter 9.
Fuck Chapter 9.

TOTP, Episode Aerith, Scenes 28-35
Final Fantasy VII Remake: Traces of Two Pasts Episode 2: Aerith Scenes 28-35 A Light Novel by Kazushige Nojima Translated by Stanley (@istanleyff7 on twitter) Scene 28
Aerith intended to find a job on her own, but Elmyra had already promptly sorted it out. It was to help the teachers at the Sector 5 House. Even though it was a job, she didn't feel that she was working because she spent most of her time playing with the children. She wanted to know about the world that she hasn't experienced. Yoko, who was older than her, had already left the house. She rented a house with a group of friends and made jewellery, which she sold in markets around Midgar. Jean and X collected machine parts from the scrapyard, polished them and sold them to people who needed them. Elmyra frowned when she told her this and ordered that she must never leave Sector 5 no matter what.
"You said that if you restrained me, you'd be the same as Shinra. Have you forgotten?"
"I can’t believe you said that kind of stuff to your mother."
Elmyra looked very tired. Her work probably took a toll on her. If she had continued her "business" with Carlo and the others, she would not have had to work this hard. No matter how Aerith thought about it, she felt Elmyra let go of the business because of her. They were not a real parent and child, and she didn't have to care for her in the first place. Aerith wondered if she really had those inner thoughts, and she sure did. Was the given circumstances the reason why she tried to hold herself back with unnecessary words? Now, she was retaliating as a way to get back at Elmyra for tying her down.
Scene 29
"That's really sick."
"Yup, I admit it. My rebellious phase made things worse. I didn't have things to pour my heart and soul into, unlike you, Tifa."
"I really recommend exercising."
"Yeah, I’ll do that eventually."
"Yeah right… I’m sure.... You’ll do that eventually…."
"So, even though all these happened, I continued to help out at the house. The kids were so cute. They loved me. By the time I was fourteen, I didn't have much to complain about. But..."
Scene 30
After finishing work at the Sector 5 House, Aerith headed down the alley back home and saw people within the Gainsborough property standing by the entrance, unintentionally blocking it. There were two men and two women, and they seemed to be looking at the garden and the house. She recognised one of the men. His long, beautiful golden hair had not changed.
"Rodin!" Aerith called out to him instinctively.
The face she saw when he looked back was unmistakably Rodin's.
"Yo, Aerith!" Rodin called back to her cheerfully, but for some reason, still looking about his surroundings.
"You've grown taller, haven't you? How long has it been?"
"It's been two years? Maybe slightly more than that?"
"Ahhh, yeah around that long."
She also looked at the other three to see if she knew them.
"Cheers."
Their eyes met. The young man with a large body and a boy's face raised his hand bashfully.
"Eh? Is that you, Marcellus?"
"Ah, you recognise me?"
"Of course."
Although Aerith replied that, she did not think that he was the same as back then. His physique became like his father's.
"I brought Marcellus here because, for some reason, he insisted on seeing you, Aerith."
Rodin took a step back, seeming like he made an excuse. There was a sense of discomfort. Marcellus darted his eyes from place to place and Aerith could sense his nervousness. He scratched his cheeks two or three times and started to speak in an awkward manner.
"Aerith. Firstly, I want to apologise for calling you a thief. Please forgive me. I was really a stupid kid. I hated anything and everything about the world at that time. I didn't even control myself."
"I had already forgiven you. I'm glad you seem to be doing fine."
Marcellus's face lit up.
"Yea, I've been doing fine, thanks to you. Some thugs were chasing after me, then I ran away before a monster attacked me, and I was dying. Then I had a dream that you came to save me. For the longest time, I thought that it was a dream. Even if you were close by to me, you had no reason to save me, and you definitely couldn't be close by. But I had heard it from Carlo the other day that you knew where I was. Carlo didn't believe your reason. That's why he didn't tell anyone about it for a long time."
Aerith gave a faint smile, thinking that it was best not to deny or confirm anything. Damn you, Carlo.
"So I did a lot of research, and I've been wondering if it was the influence of the Lifestream. It's the flow of Spirit Energy. Do you know about it?"
"Nope."
She pretended not to know anything.
"Mako Energy sucks away the Lifestream..."
"Marcellus!" the young lady had been quiet the whole time, rebuked at him. "You're not allowed to talk badly about Mako Energy. I'll tell Papa if you do."
She then looked over at Aerith—
"My brother can talk about this for a super long time. Hey, have you been well?"
It was Rona.
"Yup. It looks like you're doing well too, Rona. How's Mr Meguro?"
"I can't say he's fine, but he's doing better now than when we left the slums. The air is better on the plate. You see, it's polluted and cloudy here, isn't it? I didn't know that until we left."
Rona was the same as before. She hurts people without meaning to.
"What's Carlo doing now?"
"He's working hard and is managing the business well. But I do wonder how he was during The Sector 5 Clash..."
"The Sector 5.... Clash?"
"You don't know about it?" Rona was shocked. "After Papa retired and Carlo became head of the household, the Corneo's, and some other ambitious, unknown people, came into Sector 5. Carlo and the others tried to get rid of them, and there was a bloody clash. Marvin, Roger and Bowman died, unfortunately."
"Eh...."
Aerith wondered how she could not have known about that.
"Well, things have already settled down, so there isn't an issue. And everyone has settled down where they should be," Rodin said, looking around again.
"Well then, Marcellus, Rona, are you both done? You both still can send letters in the future."
"Elmyra will be back soon. Do you all want tea?"
"I'm afraid we can't have tea either. We're actually not allowed in the Special District."
"Special District?"
"It spans from the station until here," Marcellus said. "It was established by Shinra around the time the Clash began. We weren't allowed to fight in the Special District. Anyone who breaks this rule would be executed. It was the only rule that everyone obeyed."
"I wonder what made this district special."
"Eh? Of course, it's because you're here, Aerith!" Rona could not hide her shock as she said it out loud.
"Okay! That's enough!" Rodin panicked.
"You both talked too much. Well then, let's go." Rodin urged them.
Marcellus hurriedly tried to arrange another meeting with Aerith. It seemed that he wanted to talk about the "mysterious incident". Aerith gave him a faint nod and dodged his attempt to do so. Rona invited her to come up to the plate to play, and Aerith replied that she would ask Elmyra. The four of them began leaving the alley. But Rodin turns around and points to a woman beside him. She was the one who was not introduced until the end.
"This woman is Amber, and we'll be getting married soon. Would you please pass the news to Elmyra? It's unfortunate that I couldn’t introduce Amber to her."
Amber looked at Aerith with an angry look on her face.
↞↠
When Aerith got home, she looked at a stand, which had a vase placed on it. There used to be a television on that stand. She wondered when the television disappeared from the house.
"Ah..."
She remembered. It was a month after Elmyra severed ties with Carlo and the household. While Elmyra was cleaning the stand, the television fell over, and it broke. There was no television in the house after that. Aerith wondered if it was a coincidence or was it just to keep unnecessary information out of the house.
Elmyra returned home late at night, and Aerith talked to Elmyra about Rodin and the others.
"Oh my, it's been a while, hasn't it? Are they alright?"
However, Aerith could tell on Elmyra's face that she was on guard.
"Hey, Mum. Do you know about the Sector 5 Clash? And about the Special District too?"
"What have you heard? We are living in a different world from those guys. It's better if you don’t worry about every little detail."
It seems that she would leave things in the dark again.
"The Special District is right here, isn't it? It's because I'm here. That's why Mum, you wouldn't let me go far away. That's the promise you made to Shinra. A promise to shut me in the Special District."
Elmyra shut her eyes and shook her head.
"That's not it. But let's stop talking about this now. I'm tired, and whew, work was rough. The water tank in the café had broken down."
"Why don't you quit your job if it’s that tough? If you want money, why don't you get it from Shinra? You've been living on their money all your life. Nothing would change, wouldn’t it?"
Aerith knew she should not have said that, but she did. She could not see the look on Elmyra's face, and she then heard footsteps. Elmyra went up to the second floor and went into her own room.
Scene 31
"At that point, I thought that would be the end of my time in the house."
"But it had a happy ending, didn't it? I mean, you both went back on good terms."
Scene 32
Aerith thought that she could not stay in the house any longer and she was filled with emotions. Aerith firstly went back to her room, pulled out a suitcase she had never used from under the bed and stuffed a few sets of clothes, along with a few valuables, into it. Lastly, she put all the money she had earned from the Sector 5 House into her pocket and left the house. She walked down a familiar alleyway into a brightly lit street. A familiar face called out to her.
"Hey, Aerith. Are you going out at this hour?"
"I'm heading towards Sector 6."
She instinctively told a lie.
"Wait, what, no!"
"Don't worry. I'm not going to the Wall Market."
"Be careful, okay? Elmyra will cry if that happens."
As she walked along the street, she remembered her adventure with Ifalna.
『I wonder which direction is Sector 3 in?』
『Which direction is Sector 3 in?』
『I've heard that there's a church in the Sector 5 Slums. In the past, people gathered here and prayed to God, but nobody comes here anymore. I've been thinking that we should hide there a little...』
Aerith's steps became lighter. She still really liked this idea that Ifalna brought up in the middle of that adventure. The church should be far and beyond the station, outside the 'Special District'. It was the perfect place for Aerith's mood. The depressing feeling she had when she left home unbelievably cleared away.
『Never forget that feeling, okay?』
『The feeling that you’ll enjoy anything.』
The memories of Ifalna came flooding back one by one.
Scene 33
"When you fight with a parent, adrenaline builds up in you, doesn't it?" Tifa uttered and seemed to be reminded of something.
"Yeah. That's why I couldn't stop and think about it."
"Yup. I understand."
"I've regrettably hurt people."
Tifa swallowed her breath after hearing Aerith's confession.
Scene 34
A train just pulled in at the platform of the station. That was probably the last train from the plate. Aerith glanced at it sideways and went ahead to try walking past it. This place was where she left her birth mother, and because of that, she still could not look at it directly. She felt as though the scene was still there. Suddenly, thoughts that she would be making a wrong move flashed through Aerith's mind. Was she about to make a grave mistake? The adrenaline she had felt earlier had unbelievably disappeared. The "Special District" was to protect her. Once she crosses the station, she would no longer have the protection. She stood rock still, as though there was an invisible wall ahead of her. Only the surrounding areas of the station were lit up. If she went forth, the road ahead would be dark. She could not see the future.
"Aerith?" a deep voice called out to her.
She turned around to see a large man standing with his back to the station. He had big eyes, a big nose and a big mouth.
"Ahhh!"
"You've totally grown up, haven't you? You look like your mother."
It was Fuzz, and he was wearing the same white coat as that day.
"You've got the wrong person," Aerith lied at the spur of the moment.
Trying to get away from him, she turned her back towards the station and darted towards the darkness. She noticed that Fuzz was following her. She could not stop.
"Aerith, wait up. It's not what you're thinking."
Aerith wondered what other reasons could he try to stop her. She felt that she should not believe him and stop for him. He must have been angry and detest us. She wondered what would happen if he caught her. Aerith no longer knew where she was headed to. She was running along a narrow road, and the surroundings were a mountain of trash. By any chance...
"Jean! X!"
There was no response. Even if this were their scrapyard, they wouldn't be there at this hour. But she could not help calling out to them.
"Ahh!"
Aerith stumbled into something big and soft and fell. The suitcase she held dropped to the ground with a thud, signalling that it broke.
"Ouch..."
She did not know what was in the middle of the road at first, but it was the carcass of a dead monster. There was an unidentifiable sound coming out from it. It died not long ago. Its bodily fluids reached Aerith's feet and hands, and she felt a stinging sensation.
"You don't have to worry. That's harmless."
It was Fuzz. She looked up at him on her bottom. He was as big as she remembered him when she was seven. She noticed that the hem of her skirt was very crumpled, and she hurriedly fixed it. She looked for an opportunity to stand up and back away.
"Aerith, how could you do this to me? I've been worrying about you since then. Ever since you ran away from Shinra, I've been wondering if you've been living in terrible conditions. I heard about this from Amber, whom you met today."
"Amber!?"
Amber. Aerith met her in the evening, and she was introduced as Rodin's lover, and they were to be married. She had an angry face. Aerith then connected Amber to Fuzz.
"Looks like you don't remember her. She was the friend who unloaded you both from the cargo train at the Sector 4 Slums Station."
"Ahh!"
So Amber was the grumpy-looking woman in the dirty work clothes that day.
"I heard from her about where you were, and I hurriedly came over to find you. But what a close call. We almost didn't cross paths. I'm sure it was Ifalna who brought us together."
Aerith slowly stood up. Fuzz took two steps back, perhaps to assure her that he was not a threat.
"Are you going to church, by any chance?"
"What?"
"I've talked to Ifalna about it before. She seemed to be very interested in it. When I told her I'd take her there someday, she said she definitely did not want to go. After you both disappeared, I went to look for both of you several times at the church, just in case you were both there. I prayed, but in the end, it seemed to me that there was no God."
A roar of a beast could be heard somewhere.
"That's from a monster. Here's the danger zone, especially at night. Shall we go to the church? Since we came all the way here anyway. It's not too far off from here, and it's nearer than the station."
It seemed that Aerith ran away further than she thought.
"But..."
"I see. Are you more afraid of me than the monster?"
She nodded honestly. He should already know how she was behaving towards him, and there was no point in pretending.
"Well, I'll just walk ahead then, and you can keep a distance and follow me. If a monster comes up behind you, run away on your own. We can’t expect the vigilante corps to be here at this hour. And I must warn you, don't expect me to put up a good fight too. Just because I'm huge doesn't mean I'm strong."
With a thin smile, Fuzz walked away. His big white back disappeared into the darkness. Fuzz was right. She did not dare to go back alone on the monster-infested road. Just because they didn't appear on the way here doesn't mean they won't appear on the way back.
"Watch out!" Fuzz's voice came from a long way in front. "The monster is dead, but it's still fresh. Don't step on it."
↞↠
The "soon" was somewhat a lie, wasn't it? They had walked so far that she was doubtful of Fuzz, and after passing the carcass of the third monster, which was still fresh, they finally came to the front of the church.
"I wonder who brought them down?" Fuzz wondered as he walked up the stone steps and approached the door of the church. It was a big door. The style of the building was unlike anything Aerith had ever seen before. She could not see the entire structure even if she was looking up. She wondered what it would look like in daylight. The door opened with a squeak. Fuzz beckoned to her, and he went in. Aerith then went up the stone steps. A light, sweet scent wafted over from the church. It was a smell that Aerith knew. The inside was pitch black, but the floor at the back was slightly white.
"Look, the flowers bloom here. Regardless of whether there is a God or not, this is a special place," Fuzz said.
Aerith thought the same. Flowers bloom in special places. The same scent from the Gainsborough garden surrounded her, and she was soon faced with feelings of regret. She wondered what Elmyra was doing—wondering if she was looking for her daughter, who ran away from home. She wondered if she was going in the direction of Wall Market, taking the word of her acquaintance and believing him blindly.
"You can sleep on the bench near the flowers. I'll be near the exit.
"Thank you."
Aerith was not sleepy at all, but she did as he suggested and sat down on a bench near the flowers. She let out a big, quiet breath and felt every stiffness in the muscles of her body relax. She must have been tenser than she had realised. She felt like she was about to really fall asleep. She had to think of something. She wondered what would have happened if she had come to this church that day with her mother, Ifalna. What if the adventure had continued until the end? What would she have worked as? With little knowledge about the world, what would she have done? Would they have been able to live together on good terms? No matter how close they were, would they have disagreements? Since they were a real parent and child, would no problems arise?
"Aerith."
A voice came from a distance.
"Yes?”
"The house at Sector 3, it's still there. I've continued paying the rent since then."
"I see."
"Would you like to live together?"
She wondered what he just said to her. What did he mean?
"You'd like me to live together with you?"
There was no response.
"Fuzz?"
As she stood up fearfully, she saw that Fuzz was right next to her.
"Yeah. Let's live together, ‘I..fal...na…’"
Fuzz smiled. The pupil in his eyes seemed like it was not looking anywhere. A big hand reached out slowly towards her.
"Come here."
He was going to grab her! Aerith tried to take the suitcase and run. However, he caught her by the arm.
"Let go of me!"
She slammed the suitcase into Fuzz's face as hard as she could. Fuzz flinched. The handle broke, the suitcase came off and flew off somewhere.
"You're heartless, Aerith."
She did not care and ran away. Weaving her way between the benches, she ran for the door. Fuzz jumped over the benches and gave chase.
"Wait!"
There was no way she was waiting. The door was already nearby. She had to exit and run away. And what should she do after escaping? Fuzz knows where she stays. Amber, without a doubt, told him about Elmyra's house. Even if she ran away now, Fuzz would show up eventually. What should she do? Would she always have to live in fear? As long as Fuzz was around...
And Aerith eventually darted out of the door.
"Eh?"
Elmyra was there in front of her, dressed in her usual clothes as though nothing was wrong. Her face changed from surprised to relieved, and her facial expression changed a few more times. Finally, she turned serious.
"Aerith, move aside."
"Huh?" Fuzz sluggishly came out of the building, "Who’s out there?"
Elmyra hammered his throat with her weapon with all of her might. Fuzz let out a shriek of pain, collapsed and laid down motionlessly. Aerith was shocked to see what weapon Elmyra was using. It was a broom, and it seems that she had brought it here.
"Shall we go home?"
"Okay."
"You didn't leave anything behind?"
"Ah..."
She forgot her suitcase. There was something important inside of it.
"Quickly go get it."
"Okay."
She went back into the darkness of the church and went over to the flowers. She looked around and immediately saw a suitcase. The lid was open, and its contents were scattered outside. She gathered up the scattered clothes and put them back in the case, but she could not find her "treasure"—the pouch containing the materia.
"What are you doing?" Elmyra called out to Aerith, her voice audibly contained irritation.
"I can't find that materia."
Elmyra mumbled in annoyance and crouched down to join Aerith in finding it.
"It's in a little pouch made out of cloth."
"I know."
It's true. Elmyra knows everything about her.
"But, how did you know I was here?" Aerith asked while searching for the pouch.
"That's what I'd like to know too."
"Eh?"
"I knew that you ran away, and I soon went out of the house too. I thought about where you'd have gone as I ran. And then, while I was in the garden, I knew that you would have gone to the church on the outskirts of the slums."
"Why?"
"It just somehow came to my mind. Ever since you came to the house, I've had several strange experiences. I thought that it was this sort of experience again. So I went back home again and did some preparations before coming over."
"And what you prepared was a broom?"
"I wasn't exactly calm, you know. But it was useful, wasn't it? Look, Aerith, over there."
Elmyra pointed towards the densely grown flowers. In the middle laid the pouch that they were searching for. She parted the flowers away to not step on them, picked up the pouch and looked inside. The materia seemed to be glowing brighter than usual.
Aerith turned around to look at Elmyra and was about to ask her shall they go back.
Elmyra was seated on the bench, and she was praying. She had her hands clasped at her chest, and her eyes were closed. The sight of her took Aerith's breath away.
"I used to give thanks like this when I was a child," Elmyra said, opening her eyes as she stood up.
She seemed embarrassed by it.
"Is it different from a prayer?"
"It's different today."
"Who did you thank?”
"Whoever told me about this place. Well, let's head out of here."
Elmyra started to walk, and Aerith followed her behind.
"Mum."
"Yes?"
"I'm hungry."
"Aerith, you’ve been talking to me normally since just now, but I'm angry with you. When I get home, you will face the music and hear everything I want to say."
"Okay~"
Both of them were completely distracted.
Fuzz had regained consciousness and was hiding behind the door. Firstly, he kicked Elmyra and sent her flying.
"Mum!"
Fuzz tried to rush over to Elmyra and was drawing near her. She dodged his grasp, picked up the broom that she had dropped, turned around and struck the big man. However, the handle snapped right in half.
"Aerith! Come over here!" Elmyra called out to her.
Aerith ran towards her in panic. She saw Elmyra holding a gun with both hands and pointing it at Fuzz. That was the gun that Carlo had left behind. Fuzz stopped in his tracks and stared at the muzzle of the weapon.
"You take one more step, and I'll shoot you."
"Why don't you understand me!?" Fuzz yelled as he came towards them.
A shot rang. Elmyra had fired the gun. The dry sounds of gunshots echoed in the air. How many shots did she fire? Finally, they only heard the metallic click of the trigger.
"Ifalna..."
Fuzz approached them as if nothing had happened. His lab coat was terribly stained, but there was no sign that a bullet had hit him.
"I can't believe this gun didn’t do shit!" Elmyra swore and threw her gun at Fuzz, but it flew well over the big man's head.
"Mum, let's run already..."
A bang was heard, and it was a sharp sound that cut through the air. Aerith did not know what it was until she looked at Fuzz. He was holding his left shoulder with his right hand and moaning. His blood was running on his white coat as he had been shot in the shoulder. Who had shot him? From where? Aerith looked around, but there was no shooter in sight.
"Let's go," Elmyra uttered in an awfully calm manner.
Fuzz collapsed and was writhing in pain. Aerith was not fearful anymore. He just looked so pathetic now.
"I'm sorry."
"Aerith, let's hurry."
Without delay, Elmyra started walking, holding the broken broom with both her hands. At last, Aerith apologised to Fuzz once more. She then proceeded to hug her handleless suitcase and chased after Elmyra.
"Hey, Mum. I wonder who shot him."
"I'm guessing this, but the 'Special District' probably expanded."
Ah. That makes sense. As they walked on, Aerith looked around her surroundings, searching for a black suit. Just for tonight, she felt that she could give them her thanks.
Scene 35
"What happened to Fuzz after that?" Tifa asked with a concerned look on her face.
"I never saw him again. Though, till now, I still get nervous when I see someone big."
"I see."
Whenever Aerith thought about Fuzz, she would still have mixed feelings about him. She did not want to see him again. However, she also carried guilt. Fuzz became like that because of what Ifalna and her did to him. If she never pondered about this, these feelings of guilt would continue for a long time. She wondered if she would ever get the chance to atone.
"You can talk to me about everything, okay?" Tifa assured her.
Aerith was delighted by her compassion. She wanted to tell her more.
"Well then, next up is a big one!"
"You gotta be kidding me. There's something bigger than whatever you said?"
"For that, you're right. It's about my first love."
"Oh, that's definitely something big!"
―It sounded like someone walked into the cargo hold. Tifa seemed to notice it too. They put their index finger to their lips and looked at each other. The sound of footsteps was coming closer, coming from the other side of the cargo wall. Tifa moved noiselessly to the gap in the cargo. It looked like she was waiting for the owner of those footsteps.
The time passed slowly but surely, and the footsteps came to a stop.
"It's me."
It was the voice of Cloud Strife. Tifa's expression softened.
"I'll tell you next time. About the story of my first love," Aerith whispered to her.
Cloud walked in front of them and looked at both of them with a dubious look. He made a face as though he was investigating them, and he looked ridiculous. Aerith and Tifa burst into laughter, trying to keep their silence.

“I’m looking for you.“…"So you won’t have a beakdown.” - what Aerith told Cloud had many deep meanings. Aerith detected that the present Cloud is not the real him during their encounters. She knows it because of her mysterious, inherent ability -pg. 29, FFVII Ultimania Omega
Aerith’s first love is Zack, the object of Cloud’s basic personality of being an “ex-SOLDIER.” . We could say Cloud’s speaking and acting like Zack is a big reason why Aerith started to have good feelings towards Cloud. -pg. 29, FFVII Ultimania Omega
Aerith’s first love was Zack, a young SOLDIER 1st Class who she lost contact with 5 years ago. He was Cloud’s best friend, and his personality has had a great influence on Cloud’s behavior. Aerith is unaware that the two were best friends, and takes an interest in Cloud because she sees Zack in him. -pg. 197 of the FF 20th Anniversary Ultimania File 1: Character
"Episode Tifa’… first off, there’s the premise that things won’t go well between Tifa and Cloud, and that even without Geostigma or Sephiroth this might be the same. I don’t really intend to go about my views on love or marriage or family (laughs). After ACC, I guess Denzel and Marlene could help them work it out. Maybe things would have gone well with Aerith, but I think there is a great burden from Aerith."Nojima

VII – Secret date
At the Gold Saucer, Cloud receives an invitation from one of his companions. Who comes around with the invitation is dependent on Cloud’s behavior.
As much as I saw Ultamanias are neutral abt this, but everyone accept it canon because its make much sense plot wise.
VII – The night before the final battle
Thanks to Tifa, Cloud regains himself, and before the final battle with Sephiroth, without using words, he confirms with her that their feelings match.
This statement made by Nomura happened in 2003, 2 years before Advent Children's (AC) release.
“I believe, for those who formerly traveled with her as comrades and for the viewers, each carries their own feelings and loves for Aerith. In this story, Cloud also carries his own undying feeling for Aerith even to this very day.”
I think that for all those players with whom Aerith traveled as a comrade, each carries their own feelings and love for Aerith. In this story, Cloud also carries his own feeling for Aerith that even now hasn’t died …. ~Tetsuya Nomura, October 24, 2003 issue of Famitsu PS2
Two years after returning to the planet, Aerith still lives on in the hearts of her friends who saved the planet. And in particular to Cloud, as a symbol of his failure to having being unable protect those dear to him[...]~Aerith's profile, FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania pg. 48-51
Now running a delivery business while helping out Tifa with the newly opened “Seventh Heaven” bar, Cloud, Tifa, Marlene and Denzel lived together like a family. However, when Cloud contracts Geostigma he disappears. Behind these actions lies feelings of guilt towards his past failure to protect people who were important to him, but through his battle with Kadaj’s gang, the legacy of Jenova, he regains the courage to face reality.~FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania Cloud Strife Profile p36-41
As long as Cloud blames himself for Aerith’s death, he won’t be able to move on with his life. One of the first ideas we had for Advent Children was to have Cloud overcome and resolve that immense feeling of guilt. For Cloud, no one other than Aerith can solve that problem for him.~Reunion Files. pg. 58

Cloud feels an incredible sense of guilt for not being able to save her, but sometimes he can still hear her voice in a soft whisper. ~Nomura, Reunion Files, Aerith’s profile pg. 58
IMPORTANT. DEAR . COMRADE. And there is not just one person with same feeling of guilt. If she was so was Zack
After Cloud was told, “Which is it? A memory or us?: by Tifa, he tells Sephiroth, “Stay where you belong. In my memories,” just before he defeats him. I think Cloud finally becomes free at this moment. Deep down, Cloud knew that he shouldn’t be so hard on himself, but at the same time he couldn’t let go of those feelings of guilt for what happened to Aerith and Zack, or the thought that he could never forgive himself for it. But then his companions made him feel better by telling him to let go.~ Takahiro Sakurai (Cloud’s voice actor) Reunion Files pg. 15.
Cloud: An answer from the Planet...the Promised Land...I think I can meet her...there
This one has been proved being a mistranslation. And not what they really thought abt ir being romantic
Goodbye to Bugenhagen
When Red XIII refers to Bugenhagen’s passing away as him having “gone on a journey,” the team realize what has happened and answer that they “might meet him again somewhere.” If all people return to the Lifestream in the end, then they will in fact see Bugenhagen again someday. This line of thinking also shows up in Cloud and Tifa’s dialogue in the ending. ~FFVII Ultimania Omega, pg. 203
And if it's just Aerith they r both going to meet her as this Ultamania shall say
Getting something of a hunch as to understanding the Promised Land’s meaning, he thinks he can meet someone … In response, she smiles and says “Yeah, let’s go meet her.” The person they’re talking about meeting is, of course, Aerith. As for the Promised Land …~FFVII Ultimania Omega pg. 27
However, she had caught what he was planning. He was apparently going to use separate entities to be his agents. The woman asked herself if she could do the same. However, she soon changed her mind. Even if it were possible, I want to meet Cloud the way he knows me. ~Aerith, Case of the Lifestream: White.
She’s presented in this movie as Cloud remembers her, and her spirit is still with him - talking to him throughout the film. ~Maaya Sakamoto (Aerith’s voice actor), pg. 58, Reunion Files
In Advent Children
Showing up in front of people feeling pained and confused,Her figure seems like a loving mother. ~Aerith Profile FFVII 10th Anniversary Ultimania, pg. 48-51
As Cloud regains consciousness, Reno and Rude tell him about the orphans being abducted, and that they had been taken to Kadaj’s base, in the “Forgotten City.” Upon hearing this, Cloud hesitates, because of the association with Aerith’s death.~Reunion Files pg. 111.
I think part of the reason we decided to have Kadaj’s base at the Forgotten Capital is because it’s the one place that Cloud avoids. But at the same time, perhaps he’s drawn to it. There’s a sort of hidden meaning to it, with the maternal essence of Aerith that lingers there~Nojima, pg. 29, Reunion Files
“Mother?” ~Cloud upon feeling Aerith's presence in Advent Children/Complete
Cloud calling her Mother explains everything. As for Aerith Cloud is a beloved child who has been through a lot with a fragile mind who needs to be protected. Indeed she is a Mother/planets guardian/goddess who helps all of her children in Acc with her bodyguard by her side, Zack
This was it until I find more. But everytime Aerith says something its plot. Devs had Cloud waver between two heroines back in 90s because it was new because it could com handy, using Aerith as overarching plot and for Tifa as intimate plot progress.

Hey there just wanted to ask regarding Ultimania (all of them ) quotes about cloti there was many of them describing their relationship but i want to ask how many quotes is there for clerith regarding their relationship please ask your fellow CA shipper friends like is the CA quote as many as CT i want to know what is written for CA that the clerith shippers seem to cling to these couple being canon thank you 🙏🏻
@iaintyourbro @enigmaphenomenon @holysmotez @magos-dominus @otp-oasis-heavenxearth
Not that I needed to tag anyone for this because the answer is none. The only references to any feelings are from Aerith to Cloud, with nothing from him showing any kind of reciprocal feelings.
Dumdums cling because of "player interpretation", the OG pts system where Aerith begins with 20 more pts than Tifa so they say she's the default without even taking into consideration if you play properly then Tifa has 56pts by the time you meet Aerith and she can lose pts if you push one wrong barrel. The GS date, which is listed as optional for her in the ultimania.
Oh and the US ad which has the dumb tagline of a love that can never be, which the E3 remake trailer mocked tf out of. And dismantled and maiden, which aren't canon.
I think that's all their "proof" other than trying to use shit like KH and other games, even though in those Aerith is a Cloti and Cloud and Tifa are still shown as having a complicated thing happening.

What’s your take on Cloud’s depression during AC? People on twitter are suddenly talking about this, again. This matter was brought up by those antis saying that we Clotis should accept the fact that Tifa wasn’t the one who “healed” Cloud and that she was also being mean and not considerate whatsoever. The funny thing is that, they also accused us of denying his depression and not understanding it. TF. Let’s be real, Tifa played a major part, in fact she gave him morale thx to her “scolding” lol
Hey anon..
Yeah, Twitter has me depressed today. I think it started last night. I was enjoying it for a bit, but the last week or two have been so bad over there with bullshit that I’m about to just take a break from the entire fandom.
My Take on AC Cloud:
I watched AC when it first came out, and I barely remember it. I remember I didn’t like what they did. Why was Cloud so depressed and brooding? Oh Aerith is in this? Interesting. I felt like it was disjointed and removed a lot of the great progress Cloud made in OG. They kept this depressed, brooding guy in KH as well... It just didn’t seem right to me. I was young, too.
At this point we also didn’t have On the Way to a Smile, Crisis Core, or anything else, really.. None of the Ultimanias were in English at this point. I also was not interested enough in going online. It was a weird time when I was playing other things and was meh on FF7 for a while. I was always a FF8 fangirl, so was jealous of FF7 at times hahaha. It got so much more attention and love.
It took me a long time to watch it again. I remember my husband watching it before Remake came out and I felt mad or sad. It was like an emotion from memory, and I didn’t know why. I can’t describe it. I saw it on the TV and was like why is this on here...
After playing Remake, I bit the bullet and ordered AC Complete, which had things tweaked and added. I also am now in my 30′s and have a lot more life experience.
Antis like to say Cloud is depressed solely because Aerith is dead and he wants to be with her. This may be one of the reasons I didn’t like AC, because when I did happen to come across some FF7 thing online, I’d see this shit and be like whatever, that makes no sense.
I enjoyed ACC. My heart was actually pounding and I was nervous/intrigued by what was going on even though I knew the story. I haven’t read all of CoT yet, but I’ve seen the excerpts online, so I know the general gist of things.
Based strictly on ACC:
Cloud is really upset that Denzel is sick. He’s obsessively looking up medical stuff to figure out how to cure it - this is shown with everything all over his desk. He’s closed in on himself to do this. I did the same shit when my dad had cancer. I did it for three fucking years while he was alive - from the time he got diagnosed to the day he was dying. Every damn day I looked up articles, research, and theories. It’s not healthy. It’s depressing and I closed myself off from the world half the time and didn’t realize it. Thank God my husband is a patient saint.
Cloud does care a lot about Tifa. His reaction alone at seeing her knocked out in the church is heart wrenching. When they’re brought back to Seventh Heaven, Cloud pops right up when he sees Tifa there. He then stays with her until she wakes up. This is a pretty good amount of time. The sun is up when he’s looking over her, and when she wakes up, it’s dark outside. He could have slipped out again without her noticing if he really wanted to. I’m sure he may have contemplated it.
She calls his ass out on how he’s acting. She knows he’s sick at this point. This was huge for Tifa who’s not confrontational. He clearly doesn’t want to completely disconnect, or he would have gotten rid of his cell phone voluntarily. He doesn’t. They actually show him checking his messages.
Ultimately Cloud leaves because he ends up with Geostigma. That’s the last straw. He can’t face the fact that he’s going to die and what it’ll do to his family, so he leaves. Listen, I think the only reason my dad didn’t try to leave when he was diagnosed was because he had nowhere to go and by time he started verbalizing wanting to leave, he was physically unable to. Yes, I remember him being angry because he was hospitalized again and he told my mom he was going to get an apartment by himself so she didn’t know when he was getting bad. It’s very hurtful to even think it, and even worse when you know they don’t actually mean it... They do it because they don’t want to see their family hurt.
The setup he has at the church as his “living” area is super depressing. It looks like something a homeless person sets up. He legit was going to wait to die. He had a lot of knowledge about this, so he figured there was nothing he could do.
Marlene calls Cloud out on his bullshit too. Cloud admits to her he doesn’t think he can take care of anybody. Marlene Barrret quotes him and it’s cute. I think Cloud appreciated it and I think it made him think.
In ACC, Cloud has a short conversation with Aerith. Aerith seems almost annoyed with him like “wtf is your deal, dude” kind of attitude. Zack shows up when he’s bloody and half dead fighting Sephiroth to encourage him. There are scenes with him talking at Zack’s grave and saying he couldn’t keep his promise to him. He flat out tells Aerith he wants to be forgiven. He doesn’t say I miss you, I want to be with you, none of that happens. In fact, it’s mainly her telling him HE needs to start doing some forgiving - ultimately to himself.
When Cloud is in limbo - between living and dying - Cloud says “Mom.” Very romantic, I know. Then Zack and Aerith have a conversation very similar to a couple that’s going to adopt a child and they tell Cloud he’s too big for them. This is the “I see the light” and the person on the other side is like “nah bro go back, not your time yet.”
He wakes up, Tifa and crew is there, he smiles at Tifa... and it’s a happy ending. He sees both Zack AND Aerith at the end, and they walk off in to the light together all cute and shit.
Adding in Things from the Novels/Interviews/Thoughts:
The devs have said Cloud was happy with his family and that scared him. The happier he got, the more scared he got. We know he cherishes everything. He especially cherishes the family he has.
Cloud’s depression spiral started from the high anxiety of having a happy life and Elmyra asking him to deliver flowers to Aerith’s grave. Now, I have my feelings about this, but when I look at it logically, I don’t think Elmyra ultimately does this out of spite. I actually don’t think Elmyra thinks Cloud and Aerith were a thing - so it wasn’t that either. I think she knew Cloud was friends with her and maybe he’d want to deliver some flowers - to give him some business.
This flower delivery reminds Cloud of what he thinks is his failure to protect somebody else. At this point he has his memories of what happened to Nibelheim, his mother, Tifa, and Zack. The Sector 7 plate drop and Aerith are the most recent “failures”. So this brings up Aerith.
Then Denzel comes along and he’s an orphan because his parents were... yeah... killed during the Sector 7 plate collapse. Double ouch. But Cloud and Tifa are going to take care of him.
Tifa herself has a lot of guilt because of the same reasons, she just deals with it very differently. Tifa tells Cloud to bring Denzel right home. She can make amends by adopting him in to her family and caring for him. Cloud thinks Aerith brought Denzel to him (Tifa corrects him). This is a Cloud thing, it’s not romantic. Cloud doesn’t know the guilt Tifa feels. He legit thinks all of this is his fault. Tifa’s guilt stems from the fact that Shinra drops the plate because Avalanche was in Sector 7 - she was in Avalanche. She feels guilty about Aerith because she thinks its her fault Aerith followed them to Don Corneo’s mansion. The thing is, Aerith doesn’t blame EITHER of them - I just wish they’d cover a Tifa/Aerith conversation about this as well...
Cloud and Tifa do have fights in the novels from what I understand, but it’s because he’s acting weird. He feels bad hiding the fact that he’s been going to the church a lot, and I think that does turn in to a whole LTD debate. So you can take this as Tifa is jealous that he’s going to the church all the time or she’s upset that he is hiding from her.
In the novels, Tifa has a breakdown when they go see the church after they defeat Sephiroth. This is where you get to see how badly Aerith’s death impacted her. So my thought is... Cloud thinks bringing her to the church hurts her because of her feelings, not because she’s jealous. I think Cloud is oblivious to the jealousy thing, honestly. Don’t think it’s a thought in his mind.
I honestly don’t know the real reason why he goes to the church to hide. I think this is another point of fight with both sides. My personal take is there was nowhere else he could go and be alone. Most of the stuff had been destroyed. It was still close by, so he could still do his work and keep an eye on things/be nearby.
There is a quote that is taken to be literal, but I think it’s just a way to say it wouldn’t have mattered who Cloud was “with.” Yes, Tifa and Cloud have issues, and I believe the quote goes “Perhaps it would have gone better with Aerith, but I think her responsibility is too great. Maybe the children will help them with their issues.” This isn’t exact, but it’s the jist of what they said. The children do help them - that’s the point of the scenes with Marlene, to slap him silly with reality.
“Oh but he sees Aerith when the building is falling.” Yes, you know why? Because he thinks that’s going to happen to Tifa. This is a “NO I’M NOT LETTING THIS HAPPEN.” moment. On top of it, I don’t think anybody would be right again if they saw this happen. If my neighbor was impaled by a large sword in their back, I’d be messed up from it. I don’t really know my neighbors. He’s not replaying this death scene in his head cuz he misses Aerith, he’s playing it in his head because it’s traumatic and he doesn't want to see this happen to Tifa. Especially Tifa.
It’s been put in Ultimanias time and time again that Cloud’s feelings are for Tifa. I went through my Ultimania - which only covers OG - and it doesn’t say anything about Cloud’s side of the CA argument. It does say how he feels about Tifa in the Lifestream, though.
The “He wants to die for her, see, that’s why he’s going to the church and waiting.” No, he doesn’t want to die or else he wouldn’t be so depressed. Just thinking this is fucked up on so many levels. If he really wanted to die and be with her, he’d be happy he got an incurable illness, I’d think... Cloud leaves Tifa and them because he doesn’t want to hurt him with him dying and not being able to stop it.
The other thing that would be... weird... Zack is in the Lifestream with Aerith. They walk off together for a reason. I don’t think she’s going to just drop Zack for Cloud since the whole reason she was initially interested in Cloud was because of the similarities to Zack. He had the same sword, the same clothes, and in OG had some of the same mannerisms. I noticed the dropped the squatting in Remake - the random squatting.
The ending of ACC implies that now that Geostigma is cured and Sephiroth is (hopefully) gone for good, Cloud can be happy. I’m not saying that his smile fixes everything. I’m sure that him and Tifa had to work on things, but you can see in DoC that things seem to be much better - he’s more upbeat and happy. He’s more dorky, like he should be.
Sorry this is long. I have a lot of feelings about all this stuff today. I’ve been seeing the fights over on Twitter about it and.. yeah. Cloud is depressed because of the fact he’s dying, his kid is dying, and he can’t seem to do anything right in his mind.
Thanks for the ask.
